观音菩萨现天龙八部身度化众生

　　紧那罗是修行众, 天王想听佛法了, 就叫紧那罗用奏乐的方法演奏佛法, 有时奏声闻缘觉法, 有时奏菩萨法, 他是专门奏这些法音的。 紧那罗头上长了一只独角, 又称为遗神。摩睺罗伽就是大蟒蛇, 它是蛇王, 身体长、 大, 一由旬是四十里, 它的身体有五百由旬那么长。有的人不怕这不怕那, 就怕蛇, 观世音菩萨就现蛇王身来度化他。
　　以前有个寓言叫“叶公好龙”, 这个人不喜欢做官,就喜欢龙, 家里画的、 雕的到处都是, 天上真龙听到了很高兴, 把自己变小了来登门拜访。 来时, 天昏地暗,风雨交加, 因为龙身太大了, 只好把龙头架在房梁上,尾巴绕起来架在窗户上, 把叶公吓得爬到床底下不敢出来。 但也有人确实喜欢龙, 所以观音菩萨就现这些天龙八部身来度化他。 非人身也是很多的, 要讲也有很多精彩的故事。

Another kind of spirit mentioned above is Kinnara. Kinnara are Dharma practitioners. When the king of heaven wants to learn Dharma, he will invite Kinnara to demonstrate Dharma by playing music. Sometimes, they play the melody of Śrāvakaand Pratyeka buddha, as well as the melody of demonstrating the path of Bodhisattva. Kinnara are professional musicians whose mission is to propagate Dharma by music. They have a horn on their heads and are also called the Missed God. Mahoraga is apython who is the king of snakes. The length of his body is 500 yojanas; one yojana equals 40 miles. Some people fear nothing but snakes, so Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva appears as a snake to enlighten them.
There is an old allegory called Lord Ye's Love of Dragons: Lord Ye was not interested in becoming an official, but was fond of dragons. He decorated everywhere of his house with various paintings and sculptures of dragons. The real dragon in heaven was pleased about this, so he decided to pay him a visit and thank him in the form of a small dragon. There was heavy storm when he arrived. The dragon had shrunk its body but it was still too large to enter the house. It had to place its head on the roof beam and circled its tail around the window. Lord Ye was so frightened that he hid himself under the bed. For people do like dragons, Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva will appear as a dragon to teach them. There are also numerous stories about non-human spirits.
