Kite Flies, Peace Comes

潍坊是世界风筝之都, 在中国的春秋时期，被尊称为墨子的大思想家墨翟，发明了风筝。风筝后来发展成为一门中国民间艺术，寄托了老百姓美好的愿望。

Weifang is the world centre for kites. In the Period of Chunqiu,  the great thinker Micius, or Mo Di, invented the kite，which was later developed into a folk art. It has become a vehicle for people's good wishes. 

人们将精心制作的各种造型和图案的风筝飞上天空，更是放飞自己的心愿，象征着拥有一个太平、可以掌控的未来。在杨家埠的木版年画纪念馆内，民间传承的文化遗产被用心保存了下来。

People make delicate kites with different forms and patterns and send them to the sky, symbolising the hope that their dreams will fly and come true as well as the hope that they will have a peaceful and controllable future. In the museum of engraving in Yang Jia Bu, the cultural folk-inheritance has been carefully preserved. 

我们中华民族文化渊源流长，在生活的各个方面，哪怕是娱乐都能呈现出来。潍坊被称为世界风筝之都，这是我们几乎每个人童年最美好的记忆。其中“筝飞太平”的木版年画，生动喜庆，寓意吉祥，具有鲜明的民族色彩。

Chinese culture is longstanding and well established. It prevails in different aspects in people’s life, even in entertainment. Weifang is renowned as the world centre for kites. Flying a kite is one of the most wonderful memories in almost everyone’s heart. One of the engravings called Kite Flies, Peace Comes, was of great vividness, gaiety and auspicious implications. It had many features of folk art.

小小的一个风筝能够扶摇直上，放飞我们自己的心灵，所以放飞风筝的过程也是自我驾驭的过程，可以展现我们聪明才智，寄托我们的理想。

The flying of a kite up in the sky symbolises the flying of our mind and spirit. This is also a process of taming one’s mind and demonstrating one’s intelligence. It is imbued with our aspirations.

虽然从小就会玩，但是却包含着很深的意义在当中。这一条线不仅拉着那个风筝，也拉着我们祖祖辈辈，也拉着我们子子孙孙。所以放风筝的世代相传，代表着我们人对未来的期望，对当下的把握。

This is something that people have played since childhood, but in fact it has profound meanings. The string not only holds the kite but also our ancestors and offspring. It will pass from generation to generation. It therefore represents our hope for the future and the seizing of the present moment.

筝飞太平。徐徐春风中能够自我掌握的这种力量，每个人都是平等的，所以每个人手中都有一个风筝，每个人的心中都有一个风筝。我们的命运也像这个手中的风筝一样，所以在这里也祝愿大家学佛开智慧，把握好我们的人生，创造我们幸福的未来！

Kite flies, Peace Comes. In the winds of spring，the power to master oneself is available to everyone. Everyone has got a kite in their hand and in their heart. Our fate is also like the kite in our hand. I wish that you all will explore your wisdom via the practice of Buddhism, thus allowing you to master make your life more meaningful and create a happy future！
