Buddhism was born in ancientIndia,Later it spread along the ancientSilk Roadand integrated with thelocal cultures and it became an important phenomenon of human civilization, andit became one of the world's three major religions along with Christianity andIslam. It has been for over 2000 years that Buddhism be introduced to China, after a long evolution, interaction and integration with Chinese culture, itformed the department of Chinese, Tibetan, Pali three languages that wasilluminated by Buddhist culture and it left a profound impact to Chinese peoplefor their religious beliefs, philosophical ideas, literature and art, customs, manners and it has been an indispensable & important part for the Chinesetraditional culture. Solemn pagodas, quiet ancient temples, exquisite grandgrottoes, mysterious Smart Buddhist Poems, all show a combination of wisdom andbrightness of Buddhist culture and Chinese culture.
Being widespread all over the world, seeds of peacehave been sown, by Buddhism, in different countries and areas that promoted theexchanges between different civilizations and the profound friendship ofpeoples of all countries. Especially to those admirable ancient sages, such asTianzhu monk Kasyapa Matanga,Zhu Falan,Ancient Indian Padmasambhava,Atisha,South Korea Prince Jinqiao Jue,Japanesemaster Kukai and Chinese Fa Xian, Xuan Zang, Jianzhen and so on. They made anoutstanding contribution in this regard that was sung high praise by peoples.
China is the world's largestnumber of Buddhists in the country, Buddhists circle inChinaiswilling to make an active contribution to the Buddhist community internationalexchanges. We have continuously held the fourth World BuddhistForum and successfully hosted the 27th Conference of the World Fellowship ofBuddhists andsent a delegation to attend the United Nations'General Assembly of Vesak and all kinds of important international Buddhistactivities, tooth She Lipu dedicated to Myanmar for worshippingfor four times,Buddha's fingerbone relic, tooth relic has been in succession to Thailand, Sri Lanka and other countries for worshipping,Wherever it went, the grand occasion for worshipping was unprecedented, which greatly enhancedfriendship and affection of Buddhist circles among China and Myanmar, Thailand,Sri Lanka. Chongsheng Forum , which sets up an important platform for exchange of Buddhism amongChina and South Asian, Southeast Asian countries and it will play an importantrole in strengthening exchanges among Theravada Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhismbetween the North up and the south down and promoting communication between theminds of the people among China and South Asia, Southeast Asian countries.
Historically, Buddhism as a humanities ties, whichmade a positive contribution in promoting exchanges among differentcivilizations and mutual learning that linked countries and peoples inAsiaclosertogether. At present, construction of “One Road,One Belt”, put forward byChina, opened up roads along the country of equality, mutual benefit, win-win,cultural exchange and minds to minds communication of people, and it is ahistoric opportunity for Buddhists. There are many Buddhist countries alongconstruction of “One Road, One Belt”, such as Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam,Cambodia and other countries are in the same Lancang - Mekong River Basin withYunnan, China, wherepeople are belief inTheravada Buddhism and live in the same mountains and drink the same water withpeoples in the south Asian countries. Yunnan, as the only three languageBuddhism province in China,it has long history of Buddhism exchanges with South and Southeast Asiancountries, forming a unique geographical, ethnic and religion relation. Dali, known as Myohyang Buddha, “a place of temples numbered over 3000 and palaces upto 800” was described, that is portrayal of flourishing of Buddhism in ancientDali.Historically, there were monks from Indian,Myanmarand other countries to come to Dali forworshipping Buddha and stories on worshipping had been praised generations bygenerations. Countries along the “one road, one belt” should inherittraditional history to take responsibility of the times, and actively carry outexchanges of Buddhism, play its due role to promote people to people and mindsto minds exchanges , let it be an important link for promotion of friendshipamong peoples of all countries.
The theme of this forum is focused on developmentideas of “one road, one belt” to discuss and search theory and practice ofBuddhism among people. Chinese Buddhist community has advocated and practicedthe "Humanistic Buddhism" spirit for a long time, which plays an active role in promote social harmony andmakes a great contribution to Buddhists exchanges between China and othercountries. Buddhism has been always in minds of people, when people leave awayfrom the world, there is no hope for them to search for Buhhda. Buddhism is notonly for personal perfection but should take responsibility to serve society aswell. It plays an important role to promote kindness of people, social harmonyand the world peace. Buddhism circle in all countries marches forward with eachother by spirit of Humanistic Buddhism to recreate glory in the construction of“one road, one belt Initiative”.
Mr. Xi Jinping, the Chinese president made a speechin UNESCO Headquarters in 2014 and said that:Civilization is water, soft and soundless. We hope that participates fullymake good use of a geographical advantage, base on the traditional friendship, adhere principle of harmony with difference, vigorously promote Buddhismexchanges, promote mutual learning among civilizations and enhance friendshipamong peoples. Here, I want to stress that the national religioncircle of China will support the Chinese national Buddhist circle as always tocarry out friendly exchanges with the Buddhist circles of all other countries.I am also very pleased to see that some countries’ government religiousofficials be invited to attend the forum, the Chinese State Bureau of ReligiousAffairs hopes to strengthen cooperation with foreign government religiousdepartments to create favorable conditions and provide good service forgrass-root religious exchanges.
