你没有付出一定的代价，听法也是漫不经心的

　　【尔时，佛告观世音菩萨：当愍此无尽意菩萨，及四众、天龙、夜叉、乾闼婆、阿修罗、迦楼罗、紧那罗、摩睺罗伽、人非人等故，受是璎珞。】“愍”是怜悯悲悯的意思, 佛对观世音菩萨说: 你应当悲悯他们, 给他们结这个法缘, 他们结了你的缘之后, 你度他们就会很好度了, 否则你来度他们是你的一厢情愿, 他们不一定会受度。现在他们觉悟了, 想亲近你，已经把身上最宝贵的东西拿下来供养你了, 你应该收下, 把这个缘结得更深一点, 更紧一点。我们听法也是一样, 你没有付出一定的代价, 听法也是漫不经心的。如果你经历了种种的艰难, 比如有的请假不上班的, 有的自己有庙暂且放下不管的, 排除了各种的困难、违缘跟着我来了, 他们付出了, 听经就特别认真。所以, 讲经说法要“香花请, 香花迎”, 有献供品的，有献花的, 表示对法的尊重。

Eternal（Lecture on the Guan Yin Bodhisattva Universal Door）（68）

Then the Buddha said to Guan Yin Bodhisattva,‘You should pity this Aksayamati Bodhisattva, the four groups of Buddhists, the deva, naga, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kimnaras, mahoragas, human and non-human beings, you should accept this necklace.’

‘Pity’ means mercy and compassion. The Buddha told Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva: you should have mercy on them so that they can make a connection with you. Once the connection is formed, it would be easy for you to preach to them. Otherwise, it will be your one-sided wish of preaching to them which they may not accept. Now, they’ve realized it is important to get closer to you and have offered their most precious item to you, you should take it and thus your connection will be deeper and tighter. This is similar to our teaching here. If you have not experienced difficulties to attend the lectures, you may listen with a distracted mind. On the contrary, if you did experience all sorts of difficulties, you would listen to the teachings very carefully. For instance, some people here asked for leave from their work and some have left their temples behind temporarily in order to attend this Dharma lecture with me. They have overcome all difficulties and hindrances they encountered. Since the lecture has cost them a price, they will listen very carefully. Therefore, this is why we should offer flowers to invite for the Dharma teachings to be held, while sometimes Hata is offered to show respect to Dharma.
