十二因缘法——《永恒的甘露》传喜法师开示录四十三

  【 应以辟支佛身得度者,即现辟支佛身而为说法。 】

  有的众生不具足见佛的福德, 他的福德可以见辟支佛, 观世音菩萨就现辟支佛身来度他。 辟支佛是缘觉乘的果位, 缘觉又叫独觉, 佛住世时, 祂以十二因缘法悟道, 称为缘觉; 佛不住世时, 祂以十二因缘法开悟, 叫独觉。 十二因缘法是我们在生灭的轮回中, 由过去、 现在、 未来的三世因果组成的一个因果链, “ 所谓:无明缘行、行缘识、识缘名色、名色缘六入、六入缘触、触缘受、受缘爱、爱缘取、取缘有、有缘生、生缘老死忧悲苦恼” , 顺缘而下就形成了生死 “流转门”。 如果逆缘而上, “ 无明灭则行灭、行灭则识灭、识灭则名色灭、名色灭则六入灭、六入灭则触灭、触灭则受灭、受灭则爱灭、爱灭则取灭、取灭则有灭、有灭则生灭、生灭则老死灭” , 这样就形成了 “还灭门”。 这十二因缘中, 前二支是前世的因, 带来现世的果; 中间八支是现世的因, 带来后世的果; 后二支又是来世的因果。 有生必有死, 十二因缘就像十二个环, 环环相扣, 其中任何一环你悟开了, 生死的关都可以打破。 修行人在寂静的地方思维这些甚深的道理: 无明是从哪里来的? 无明最后又到哪里去了? 无明本来没有体性, 无来无去、 无住无灭, 如果你能悟到这一点, 你就可以悟道了, 安住这个修行, 就能证得辟支佛的果位。 对这种根基的人, 观世音菩萨就现辟支佛身来度他。

If there are sentient beings who need someone in the body of a pratyekabuddha in order to be saved, then Guan Yin Bodhisattva will manifest Himself in the body of a pratyekabuddha to preach Dharma for them.

If beings have sufficient blessings to see a pratyekabuddha but not Buddha, then Guan Yin Bodhisattva will manifest Himself in the body of a pratyekabuddha to save them. Pratyekabuddha is the fruition of pratyekabuddhayana. Pratyekabuddha is also called a self-enlightened Buddha. When the Buddha resided in this world, they became enlightened through the practice of the twelve nidanas, and are thus called Pratyekabuddha; whilst the Buddha does not reside in this world, those who attain enlightenment through the same practice are called a self-enlightened Buddha. In the Saṃsara of birth and death, the twelve nidanas is a chain of cause and effect of the past, present and the future. This means that ignorance causes action, action causes consciousness, consciousness causes name and form, name and form cause the six senses, the six senses cause contact, contact causes sensation, sensation causes desire, desire causes attachment, attachment causes existence, existence causes birth, birth causes ageing and death. Following these causes, the transmigration of birth and death is formed. Tracing back to the causes: If ignorance is eliminated then action will die. If action dies then consciousness will not exist. If consciousness does not exist then name and form will disappear. If name and form disappear, the six senses will cease to exist. If the six senses cease to exist then contact will stop. If contact stops then sensation will not exist. If sensation dies away then desire will die away too. If desire dies away then birth will not exist. If birth does not exist then there will be no ageing and death. Thus the door of returning to Nirvana will be formed. The first two of the Twelve Nidanas are the causes of previous life, which result in the effect of the present life; the following eight are the causes of the present life, which create the effect of future life; the last two are the cause and effect of one’s next life. Birth and death certainly bonds. The Twelve Nidanas are like twelve rings that are linked to each other. If you become enlightened with any one of the rings, you will break all of the links and thus be able to break through the cycle of birth and death. Practitioners should contemplate this profound philosophy in a quiet place: Where does ignorance come from? Where does it go to in the end? Ignorance has no objective reality. There is neither coming and going, nor stay or extinction of it. If you are able to understand this, you will be enlightened. By the practice based on this understanding, you will attain Pratyekabuddha fruit ground. For someone with this capacity, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will manifest Himself in the body of a pratyekabuddha to save them.
