佛跟无尽意菩萨说: 善男子, 你问得很好, 若有一个地方的众生具足见佛的福德因缘, 观世音菩萨就现佛的形象来度化他。 能见到佛身是一种福德, 没福德的人是见不到的, 就像现在, 佛也在, 为什么我们见不到呢? 因为大家没有这个福德。 如果有福德的话, 你做梦会见到佛, 打坐也会见到佛; 没有福德, 不但佛见不到, 菩萨也见不到, 连善人也见不到, 尽见恶人, 甚至开眼、 闭眼都见鬼。 有的人不敢睡觉, 一睡觉做梦就是鬼, 所以说见佛身的人是有大福德的。 我们忆佛念佛都有不可思议的功德, 更不要说见佛了, 佛有三十二相八十种好, 我们任见一相, 都会灭无量无边的罪, 积累无量无边的福德。 所以, 有的地方众生的福德因缘成熟了, 观世音菩萨就现佛身来度他, 讲究竟无上的一佛乘法。
Eternal （Lecture on the Guan Yin Bodhisattva Universal Door）（42）
The Buddha told Aksayamati Bodhisattva, ‘Good man, if there are sentient beings in a land who need someone in the body of a Buddha in order to be saved, then Guan Yin Bodhisattva will manifest Himself in the body of a Buddha to preach Dharma for them.’
The Buddha said to Aksayamati Bodhisattva: ‘Good man’, you have asked a very good question. If sentient beings in a land have the blessedness and cause to see Buddha, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will manifest Himself in the body of a Buddha to save them. Beings with blessedness are able to see Buddhas. If we lack blessedness, although there are Buddhas around us now, we cannot see them. Why? Because we do not have the blessedness. On the contrary, if we have blessedness, we can meet Buddhas in our dreams or in meditation. Without blessedness, we cannot see Buddhas or Bodhisattvas, nor can we see good people. What we can see are just evil people, or even ghosts. Some people do not dare to sleep as they always dream of ghosts. Therefore, we say that people who are able to see Buddhas are indeed those who possess great blessedness. By thinking of or invoking Buddhas, we can gain tremendous merits, let alone being able to see the Buddha. The Buddha possesses thirty-two excellent forms and eighty signs. By only seeing any one of them, our negative karma accumulated over kalpas is eliminated and we can gain boundless merits and blessings. Therefore, when sentient beings’ blessedness and cause become matured, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will manifest Himself in the body of a Buddha to save them and preach the ultimate supreme Buddha-dharma of One Vehicle.
