The Guide to Cultivating Compassion
Avalokitesvara is the incarnation of everyBuddha’s heart of compassion. He is the incarnation of Buddha’s compassion. AmongBuddha’s three bodies, He is the body of sambhogakaya. What you saw in PujiTemple earlier today, Vairocana Avalokitesvara is Avalokitesvara as the body ofsambhogakaya. It is a very typical stereotype. He wears thehat of Five Dhyani Buddhasand is decorated bythirteen kinds of jewelry. There are necklaces, bracelets and bangles on His neck, arms, hands and feet, which symbolize thestate of perfection of Buddha’s body of sambhogakaya.
It means when a Bodhisattva becomes Buddha andattains the clear and still dharmakaya, He will turn His achievement ofBuddhahoodto all sentient beings to redeem them from allsufferingswhich is the life career and incarnationof all Buddhas. The career of all Buddhasis dedicated to the benefit of all sentient beings.
Avalokitesvara is in fact a representativeof the body of sambhogakaya of all Buddhas.Amitabha is the Dharmakaya of all Buddhas.According to the sambhogakaya’s spiritual realmthat the Buddha enters,Amitabha is the chiefBuddha of the lotus family in the West. But His infinite light and infinite lifemanifest the essence of dharmakaya. He benefits all sentient beings with mercy, which is the ultimate place where all phenomena andsentient beings return. In the Buddhist practices, the reason why we chantmantras and receive empowermentsis because we want toachieve the state of Avalokitesvara, the body of sambhogakayaof the Buddha.
