Two orientations

心灵教育对一个人的健康成长是不可或缺的，缺了这一块，就好像开车不懂得维护，上了路不知道交通法规，很容易出事。

Spiritual education is inevitable for a person’s healthy growth. Without it will easily go wrong, just as driving without knowing maintenance or getting on the road without knowing traffic rules.

对不了解佛法的人，用他们喜闻乐见的方式打动他们的心灵，这在大乘佛教里叫“方便”。但这件事情不容易做，想人所想的同时，还要善于运用时代语言，更要有一颗包容宽阔的心。

Using delighting methods to move hearts of the people knowing little about Buddha Dharma is called as “expedient” in the Mahayana.  But it is not an easy thing to do, since we should not only be ourselves in other’s place and good at applying modern language but also have a tolerate and generous heart.

佛法是理性的，逻辑性很强，不提倡主观的臆断——我相信什么。因为推论下去，连“我”都是不可靠的。佛是教我们怎样越来越理性地、越来越有智慧地、越来越像X光一样地照见虚妄，照见事物外在的假相，直到看见它的本质。

 The Dharma is rational with a strong logic and not for subjective assumption---what I believe, since if we got along with such an assumption, it would be even unreliable for this “I”. The Buddha teaches us how to use more and more rational, wise and X-Ray ways to penetrate the delusions and false appearances of a thing into its final nature.

宇宙本来就是多维空间，我们困在低维空间没有办法进入，不代表高维空间就不存在。就像佛菩萨，衪是以真理的方式存在的，我们狭隘的肉眼无法看到。虽然是在不同的维次，却并不妨碍我们的心与佛菩萨相应，也就是所谓的“感应道交”。

 The universe is a multi-dimensional space. To be trapped in the low-dimensional space does not mean there is no high-dimensional one. Just like Buddha himself, existing in a manner of truth, could not be seen by our narrow-minded eyes. Though we are at different dimensions, it cannot stop connecting our hearts with Buddha, which is called as “spiritual connection”.

当我们修福报的时候，其实就是在与佛菩萨相连通，从而在潜移默化中增长智慧。福和慧是一个量变到质变的过程，福是因，慧是果。

As we strive for blessings, it is the way for us to connect with Buddha and to enhance our wisdom unconsciously. Blessings and Wisdom is a changing process from quantity to quality, while blessings are the cause and wisdom is the result.

那我们怎么样修福呢？

Then how do we strive for blessings?

佛法有两个目的，第一是修福，第二是修慧，即福慧双修。

 The Dharma has two goals. First is for blessings and second is for wisdom, which means striving for both blessings and wisdom.

福主要指我们外在所依存的环境；慧就是指我们内心对事物本质的洞察，对人生宇宙的认知。整个佛法的体系可以说成是讲修福和修慧的方法。

 Blessings mainly refer to the environment on which we are relying while wisdom refers to what we understand the nature of a thing and how we know about the life and the universe. The whole Dharma system is telling people how to strive for blessings and wisdom.

那我们怎样修福呢？我们可以从“供养”上修福。佛法中特别重视供养，但供养不是供物品，而是借着物品供养我们的心。

 So how do we strive for blessings? Let us make offerings. The Dharma pays much attention to offerings, but that offering is not for the materials but for our hearts presented by materials.

我们深入佛法后，会从一切现象上只看见“心”，而看不见心之外的。外面的一切都是心的载体，都是心的表现。如果我们只见物不见心，就表示我们看到的还是现象，而没有看到本质。

Learning Dharma in-depth can make us see nothing but “heart”, and all the outside things are the carrier and presence of heart. Seeing things but not seeing heart means what we have seen is still the phenomenon but not the nature.

从佛法的观点看，整个宇宙就只有一颗心，所有一切的变化，所有一切众生的关系，都是心跟心的关系，所有一切的变化都是心的变化引起的变化。

 From the view of Dharma, the whole universe has only one heart. All the relations of living beings are the ones of heart to heart and all the changes are the ones caused by heart changing.

这样来看，世界就越来越简单，越来越清晰。所以我们今天借着供养来表达我们对佛的一份感恩，表达我们对佛的一份恭敬，通过感恩和恭敬来加强我们与佛的连接。通过连接我们获得与佛一体：我们的心与佛的心一体，我们的生命与佛的生命一体。

 Thus, the world is more and more simple and clearer. To date we present our appreciation and respect to Buddha by means of making offerings to enhance our connection with Buddha. By such connection we can be with Buddha, heart by heart and life with life.

相信供养礼敬佛的不可思议，所以每当看到佛，看到法，看到圣像，我们再忙也要鞠一躬，就这诚心的一鞠躬一顶礼，真有不可思议的功德。

 Believe in miracle of making offerings. So please make a bow whenever you see a Buddha, Dharma or icon, and such sincere bow and respect will bring you incredible merit and virtue.

《地藏经》经文里写的“少香少花”，即一点点香，一点点花供养地藏菩萨，就可以获得不可思议的功德。包括我们喂蚂蚁，捡垃圾那一点点善行，都会产生不可思议的福报。

 The Earth Store Sutra says about “a few incenses and a few flowers”, which means that offering a few of incense or flowers to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva can make you gain incredible merit and virtue. A few of benefaction such as feeding ants and picking up garbage also can bring incredible blessings.

最快的速度增长福慧

Increase blessings and wisdom in the quickest way

还有两个定位可以让我们以最快的速度增长福慧。第一，我来人间就是为了奉献众生的；第二，我来人间就是为了教导一切众生的。

 There are other two orientations that can help us to increase blessings and wisdom in the quickest way. First, living in the world is to sacrifice for all the beings. Second, living in the world is to teach and educate all the beings.

第一个定位，会最快速地增长福报，因为我们把整个生命都供养了。第二个定位，会使我们以最快的速度增长智慧。就这两个念头，就可以获得不可思议智慧、不可思议福报。

 The first one can help us increase blessings in the quickest way because we have offered our lives. The second can help us increase wisdom in the quickest way. Holding up such two ideas will gain incredible wisdom and blessings.

因为这两个念头就是种子，种子必然会结出它应有的果子。所以人生需要花一点时间来觉悟我们的生命，花一点时间来明白、学习佛法，花一点时间来转化我们的生命，然后我们的生命就会慢慢地进入到一个越来越好的状态，我们这一生的生命才会真正充满意义。

Such two ideas are the seeds and the seeds will certainly get their fruits. So we need to spend some time to know about our lives, to understand and learn the Dharma, to transfer our lives, and then to turn our lives gradually into a better status, thus making the whole life truly full of meaning.
