El séptimo mes del calendario lunar se llama "Mes de Ksitigarbha" en el budismo. Todos los años se celebra el Mes de Ksitigarbha. Y recitamos y estudiamos el Sutra de Ksitigarbha en este mes cada año, a través del cual dedicamos todos los méritos a generaciones de antepasados y padres.
Algunas personas pueden preguntarse: ¿Es necesario repetirlo todos los años? En cuanto a esta pregunta, alguien acudió al Buda en busca de una respuesta. El Buda dio un ejemplo. Dijo que había un hombre que había estado tan empobrecido que no podía hacer nada buena. ¿Cuál es la razón detrás de esto? Una de las razones es que sus descendientes de vidas pasadas no le devolvieron ningún mérito.
De ahí que tengamos claro que, los vivos deben liberar almas del purgatorio y practicar los buenos méritos por los muertos no solo después de su fallecimiento, sino que también deben dedicarse a hacerlo siquiera el muerto renace, o incluso renace como ser humano. Si los parientes de vidas anteriores pueden seguir liberando las almas, expiando los pecados de los muertos y haciéndoles el bien, todavía será de gran utilidad para ellos.
불교에서 음력 7월달을 지장월(地藏月)이라고 부른다. 해마다 지장월이 있고 매년 이 달에 지장경을 낭송하고 공부한다. 이것으로 역대 조상과 부모에게 회향하리라.
사람은 해마다 이렇게 거듭할 필요가 있을까 라는 생각할 수도 있다. 누군가가 정말 이 일로 부처님께 여쭌 적이 있었다.부처님께서 사례를 하나 드셨다. 어떤 사람이 아주 가난했고 능력이 없어서 아무 선한 일도 할 수가 없었다. 왜 그럴까? 그 원인 중의 하나는 지난세의 자손들이 그에게 공덕을 회향하지 않았기 때문이리라.
그래서 우리가 이 사실 알 수 있다. 돌아가는 사람을 초도하도록 공덕을 회향해 줄 뿐만 아니라 그 사람이 환생 후에도 혹은 다시 사람으로 테어나더라도 전생의 친족들이 그를 위해 계속 제도하여 수복을 해준다면 그 사람에게 도움이 되리라.
The seventh month of the lunar calendar is called "Ksitigarbha Month" in Buddhism. Every year there is Ksitigarbha Month. And we will recite and study the Ksitigarbha Sutra this month each year, through which we dedicate all the merits to generations of ancestors and parents.
Some people may wonder: Is it necessary to repeat doing so every year? As to this question, someone really went to the Buddha for the answer. The Buddha set an example. He said that there was a man who had been so impoverished that he was unable to handle any good things. What’s the reason behind it? One of the reasons is that his descendants from past lives did not return him any merits.
Hence we are clear that, the alive should release souls from purgatory and practise good merits for the dead not only after he/she passes away, but also should stick to doing so even if the dead is reborn, or even reborn as a human being. If the relatives of one’s previous lives can keep on releasing the souls, expiating sins of the dead and doing good for them, it will still be of great use for him or her.
农历七月，我们佛教称为“地藏月”。每年都有地藏月，每年这个月我们都要念诵《地藏经》，学习《地藏经》，以此来回向历代祖先、历生父母。
有的人就会想了，每年都这样重复做，有必要吗？为这个事，还真的有人问过佛陀。佛陀就举了一个例子，他说有一个人，穷困潦倒，什么好事都没有能力承办，什么原因呢？其中一个原因就是他过去世的子孙没有回向功德给他。
那我们就知道，人不仅去世了之后要为他超度，为他做功德，就算他投胎了，乃至投胎为人了，如果他前世的亲人还能继续超荐他，为他修福的话，对他还是会有用的。
