The 16th day of the fourth lunar month to the 15th day of the seventh lunar month each year, is the most important period of practice in Buddhism,known as the 'Intensive Practice'.
安居的首日,称为结夏;
圆满结束之日称为解夏。
The start of the retreat is called Vassa;
and its completion is termed Wan Ok Phansa.
三月结夏,九旬安居。
There are three months of Vassa and ninety days of retreat.
安居旨在,一者,慈悲护生。
The purpose of the retreat lies in: one, protecting beings with compassion;
二者,防止身心散乱,
精进修行,体悟大道。
