学佛不是喊口号


Practicing Buddhism is not 

about rallying cries

我们学佛不能光喊口号,一定要把这个内容内化到生命里去,变成你生命的实践。我们讲这个分别、散乱、烦恼、有漏,这个就是我们普通人的状态。因为我们的眼、耳、鼻、舌、身、意对的境和对应的六根它相互会扰乱,我们会迷失在色、身、香、味、触、法的境里面。要“若见诸相非相,则见如来”,你这个生命才会有受用。

We should not merely rely on rallying cries when we practice Buddhism; we must internalize its teachings into our lives and make them the practice of our life. We often talk about discrimination, muddled, affliction, and leakages (Asrava)—these are the states of ordinary people like us. The interaction of our six indriyas (roots)—eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind—with their corresponding objects (guna) causes disturbances, leading us to become lost in the realms of form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and mental phenomena. Only when we "see all forms as non-forms can we truly see the Tathagata," and only then will this truly benefit our lives.


根和尘之间当中还有个“分别识”,我们又会迷失在“识”里面。要能转“识”成“智”,这个这个“智”最关键,这个“智”是什么?经常要去思维的,要念“阿弥陀佛、阿弥陀佛”。念,“阿弥陀佛”这一句,也可以说作为一种前方便。因为作为善知识者来说,作为调御者来讲任何法门,有的人他喜欢简单的、无为法、喜欢空。因为本来他的生命附着了太多,太累了,这个时候要做减法,他就高兴。

Between the indriyas (roots) and their objects (guna), there is a "discriminating consciousness," which can also lead us astray. The key to transform this "consciousness" into "wisdom" lies in “wisdom.” What is this "wisdom"? It requires constant contemplation and the recitation of "Amitabha Buddha." Reciting "Amitabha Buddha" can be seen as a preliminary means. For spiritual masters and tamers preaching any type of Dharma sector, some people prefer simplicity, Samskritadharma (unconditioned dharma), or emptiness because their lives are already heavily burdened, and they are too tired. At this point, the Dharma should be simplified, and this brings them happiness.






PART.TWO

贪心的果报


The Consequences of Greed

佛教讲:我们人最早期的时候是不需要种地的,稻子可以不停地采,它不停地长,叫自生稻,所有食物都是天然生的。农耕文明,是人类的文明已经退步了,人类没福报了,这个天然的食物开始减少了。我们的人贪心重了之后,你家也采,他家也采,然后每个人就想我多采一点。好了,那就过度采伐。过度采伐,这个大自然就会干什么?就报复我们嘛。

In Buddhism, it is said that in the earliest times, people did not need to farm. Rice could be harvested continuously, and it kept growing by itself—this was known as self-growing rice. All food naturally came into being. The advent of agricultural civilization marked a decline in human civilization, when humans no longer had the same level of blessings, and natural food sources began to diminish. As human greed intensified, everyone started to harvest more than they needed, leading to over-exploitation. What would Mother Nature do in the face of such over-exploitation? Retaliating against us.

 

其实,这不是它要报复我们,是我们的贪心,自己把自己的环境摧毁了。所以自生稻才变得什么呢?就不会无穷无尽地可以长出稻子来给你。而变得什么呢?我们的贪心把这个稻子的基因都改变了。

In reality, it is not nature that seeks to retaliate against us, but our own greed that destroys our environment. Consequently, what happened to the self-growing rice? It stopped growing infinitely for us. Our greed altered the genes of the rice.

 

我们是正报嘛,那我们的环境是我们的依报嘛。我们的品德下降的时候,我们的“贪、嗔、痴,”炽盛的时候,我们的依报就开始受我们的影响。不仅我们可以改变自己的基因,我们的贪、嗔、痴会注入我们的基因,并且会传承给我们的后代。

We are the direct recipients of our retribution (正报), while our environment is that of our retribution (依报). When our moral qualities decline and our greed, hatred, and ignorance flourish, the environment of our retribution is impacted by these changes. Not only can we alter our own genes, but our greed, hatred, and ignorance are also imprinted in our genes which will be passed down to future generations.

 

我们的这个“贪、嗔、痴”也会让我们的依报都改变,那个自生稻的基因都被我们改变了,它就变种了。本来是无穷无尽地出稻谷的,然后后来就慢慢、慢慢就变得有限度了。所以开始比如说每年产五十次啊,三十次啊,二十次啊,十次啊,然后就十生稻,九生稻,八生稻,七生稻,就长七次它就不再结果了。然后我们再往下,六、五、四、三、二、一,我们现在就一生稻了,你一割了那个稻茬,它就第二年不会再发的。我们福报小了,它就变。我们的贪心竟然就看到自己的果报,你的贪心的果报就这么严重!

Our greed, hatred, and ignorance can also change the environment of our retribution, thereby altering the genetics of self-growing rice. Originally, the rice could yield endlessly, but over time it became limited. Initially, it might produce fifty times a year, then thirty, twenty, and ten times, then became ten-times growing rice to that of nine-times to that of eight-times to that of seven-times and it stop producing rice after seven times. Let us then move it down to six, five, four, three, two, one, we are now at one time. When we harvest the rice now, it does not grow back the next year. Our reduced blessings lead to these changes. Thus, our greed finally witnesses the severe consequences, and this is the stark reality of the fruits of our greed!

PART.THREE

改变别业


Transforming Individual Karma

众生如果没有迷乱,贪嗔痴就会减低;

贪嗔痴减低的话,那种贪婪减低。

贪婪所衍生多少罪恶的业力呀?

贪婪如果没有了,那些业力就会减少,

嗔心就会减少。

If sentient beings are not deluded, their greed, hatred, and ignorance will diminish. When greed, hatred, and ignorance decrease, avarice will also lessen. How much evil karmic strength is born from avarice? If avarice ceases, those karmic forces will reduce, and the hatred will also lessen.


贪也会转化成嗔恨的,嗔也会转化成贪的。他说:“你让我不生气可以,你给我一些什么东西。”他贪心得到满足了,他嗔也歇下来了。贪和嗔都是会相互转换的,贪不到的时候,谁障碍我,谁挡我财路,嗔心就起来了,对吧。

Greed can transform into hatred, and hatred can transform into greed, too. For example, someone might say, "I won't be angry if you give me something." When their greed is satisfied, their hatred subsides. Greed and hatred can transform into each other. When one cannot obtain what they desire and someone obstructs their path to wealth, hatred arises, right?


别说别人了,小孩子管自己的父母亲要一个玩具,父母亲不满足他的时候,这小孩子不得了,要发脾气的。再比如,小孩子沉溺在电子游戏里面,忽然把电拉了,马上小孩子“呼”一下就怒火中烧,就会变成嗔。

Let's not talk about others—think about what you do to your own parents. When you ask for a toy and your parents don't satisfy your request, you, as a child, become upset. A child engrossed in a game will immediately burst into anger if the lights are turned off or the power is cut.


所以,贪、嗔、痴这三毒啊,它就好像盘亘在我们的人心,我们的身、口、意,我们的社会、家庭中,这个地球上,好像被魔力牢牢的抓住一样。

Thus, the three poisons of greed, hatred, and ignorance seem to entwine our hearts. Our bodies, speech, minds, societies, and families on this earth seem to be within the tight grip of a demonic force.


谁是魔?那不我们自己制造的嘛?我要是远离三毒,我们的别业清静了,这共业跟我的关系就越来越小了。虽然我们现在改变不了共业,但是我们能改变自己的别业呀!

Who is the demon? Isn't it something we have created for ourselves? If we were to distance ourselves from greed, hatred, and ignorance, our individual karma would diminish, and our connection to shared karma would become smaller. While we may not be able to change shared karma now, we can change our individual karma.
