寺院也叫丛林，意思是有善知识住持，然后大家仰慕他的道德和修持，都来亲近他，追随他。

来了以后，听他开示，这叫耳濡；学习他的行为，这叫目染；有时候当我们习气现前、触犯规矩时，还会受到他的教诫，这叫亲炙教诫，那时候质感又不一样了。

所以，善知识在我们的修行路上是非常重要的存在。
