【文化释说英文有声书】第四篇 东方文明的庄严人生——慧日问道（引言）

慧日寺坐落在宁波近海的群山深处，树木掩映、清溪绕墙、鸟虫共鸣、云和气畅，是出家人修行的清净之地。传喜法师自称“是怀揣愚诚的边缘人，总是把大众当成自己不识字的母亲”。纷繁的世界华丽多彩，生活繁荣丰富，但有时也会阴霾雾迷，充满矛盾与冲突。出家人是沉默地避居一方，只做自修的沉默者；还是敞开山门，心怀众生，在承担中成为传道与救度的奉献者？我们或许可以从传喜法师弘法的足迹中有所感悟。

Hui Ri Monastery is situated deep within the mountain ranges in the coastal area of Ningbo - in a place where it is being shaded by trees, where a clear stream runs around its walls, where birds and insects can be heard to sing in unison, and where the clouds and the winds are favourable. It is a wholesome and quiet place for those who have renounced the household life to carry out their practice. Master Chuan-xi calls himself a marginalized person who treats everyone sincerely like he would his own illiterate mother. The multifarious world is rich and colourful, and life prosperous and bountiful; however, it can be murky and hazy sometimes during which one gets lost and there is antagonism and conflict everywhere. Do those who have renounced the household life avoid this by remaining silent in where they dwell to practice on their own, or do they keep myriad beings in their mind and open up the doors of their monastery so that they can - in carrying out their responsibility – contribute to the propagation of the Dao and the emancipation of all. Perhaps we are able to have some understanding of this by looking into the journeys Master Chuan-xi has made in the propagation of the Dharma.

不久前，某记者造访了慧日寺，走近传喜法师，采访的话题深浅相宜，内容厚重广博，感动人又启发人——联想、深思之间，感受佛法无边；迷惑、开悟之际，安享我佛召唤。

Not long ago, there was a journalist who paid a visit to Hui Ri Monastery so that he could approach Master Chuan-xi for an interview. The topics of that interview were both simple and profound, and its content consequential and wide-ranging. The interview was moving and inspiring – whether one was thinking casually or contemplating deeply, one could feel that the Dharma was boundless; and whether one was lost or enlightened, one could relish in peace the call of the Buddha.
