“众生无边誓愿度”，众生无边我怎么度啊?

学佛的人受三皈依时，都要念一个四弘誓愿，第一愿就是“众生无边誓愿度”。师父当时带我念的时候，我一边念一边想: “众生无边誓愿度”，众生无边我怎么度啊? 一个两个还好度， 无边的众生我怎么度啊?

现在明白了， 这是对佛弟子的要求，以前都是不想众生光想自己，想 “我要怎样，我要怎样”， “我” 的欲望无边无尽。现在学佛了， 就不能再以自己为中心了，应当以他人为中心，这就是我们佛弟子做人的第一个标准。

When a Buddhist participates in the ceremony of taking refuge in the Three Jewels, they need to arouse the ‘four great vows’, the first of which is ‘I vow to help all the infinite sentient beings achieve liberation’.

When my master first asked me to read it after him, I wondered —— ‘Since the number of sentient beings is infinite, how can we help all of them achieve liberation? Surely this would be feasible if it only meant helping one or two?’

Later, I understood the true meaning behind this vow. As soon as we become a Buddhist, we should change our mindset. Before, we have boundless cravings and only think of how to satisfy ourselves, without thinking of others. Now we should place the welfare of other beings above our own. This is a fundamental requirement of Buddhism.
