消防员金子弘在火场中为救一名孩子而不幸牺牲。死后的他被地狱使者告知，自己既是亡者，又是三位地狱使者在1000年中迎来的第48位贵人。他将在地狱使者们的陪伴下，在七次艰难的审判中为自己辩护。
Firefighter Kim Ja-hong lost his life in a fire while saving a child. After his death, he was informed by three grim reapers that he was dead and was the 48th benefactor received by the trio in a thousand years. Together with the grim reapers, he shall defend for himself through the seven difficult trials.
人道属于善道。在这地球上，每天有无数人死亡，但能回来做人的——就像这部影片里说的，一千年才等到第48个。
The Human realm (Manusya realm) belongs to the higher realms. Countless people died in this world everyday & just like what is described in this film, the 48th person to be reborn as a human comes only after a thousand years’ waiting.
佛陀说：“得人身者，如爪上土；失人身者，如大地土。”一失人身，万劫不复。
It was mentioned by Buddha: “The number of those who get a chance to be reborn as a human can be compared to the amount of dirt on my fingernails while the number of those who lose their chance to be reborn as a human can be compared to the amount of dirt on this earth.” As such, once the human body is gone, it will not return in the next ten thousand kalpa.
消防员金子弘所经历的七次审判，次次都是对生前言行的刻骨反思。而审判时所见的地狱景象，则是根据每个人生前所犯的恶行而呈现出来的。
Each of the seven trials undergone by firefighter Kim Ja-hong was a reflection of the ineradicable happenings in his life. The scenes that emerge during the period of trial in the underworld s are results of the individual’s past misdeeds committed during his lifetime.

看到这部影片，我们不禁会想，如果我们去了地狱，是能救度众生，还是只是审判台上的罪犯？
After watching this film, we can’t help but think if we were to move on to the underworld, would we be the ones who could liberate sentient beings or would we be the wrongdoers who were being put up for trial?
佛经里说：“若人欲了知，三世一切佛，应观法界性，一切唯心造。”如果能明白这个道理，达到“一切唯心造”的境界，那连地狱都能够破除。
There is this saying in the sutra: “If one desires to understand the essence of teachings from Buddhas of all three lifetimes, one should observe & note the nature of the Dharma world – all that happens is a result of one’s mind.” If one is able to comprehend this, achieving the state that “all that happens is a result of one’s mind”, one can then weed out the underworld.
所以，希望我们能够早一点修出这样的功德来，这样，不仅能灭掉自己的罪业，也能像观世音菩萨那样，从地狱的最底层起，层层度众生。“步履之处顿空痛苦城”，这也是我们对自己修行的一个要求。
Thus, I hope we can all cultivate such merits earlier as this can not only eradicate one’s own karma, but also liberate sentient beings from the underworld, starting from the lowest level, just like Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. “The place that one steps in shall be where there is no suffering”. Thus, we should demand more of ourselves when we are cultivating & practicing.
轮回中的生命，是我们累世业力的展现。而生命当下，又在为以后，造下种种善恶之因。佛教则以空性的智慧，帮助我们看清万事的本源，冲破轮回的密网，回归永恒光明的佛性中。
Life within Samsara is the manifestation of our past karma while this present life then plants the seeds of karmic effects for the future. Through the knowledge of emptiness, Buddhism aids us to see through the root that all matters share in common, breaking through the net of Samsara, and making our way back to the Buddha nature (Buddha-dhatu) which shines eternally.

梦里的忏悔也是有用的，阎王爷看得清清楚楚。所以他说，世间很少有人能鼓起勇气祈求原谅，而这少数人中，只有更少的人能得到真心的谅解。
Even repentance within dreams effectiveholds merits, and the King of Yama perceives it with perfect clarity. As he says, few people in the world have the courage to ask for forgiveness, and among these few, even fewer can receive genuine forgiveness.
这部片子的最后其实给我们一个很重要的信息：忏悔对我们的心灵是有作用的，对我们的业力是有作用的，对我们的命运是有作用的！
This film ultimately conveys a profoundmessage: repentance has transformative power — it affects our minds, alters ourkarma, and reshapes our destiny!
如果我们真心向别人忏悔，冤亲债主真正地原谅我们了，这个罪业就会从根本上消除。纵使是到了阎王面前，当我们真心忏悔时，我们的业力都会被净化，我们的命运都会被改变。但人生何必要等到阎王面前才去忏悔？就从现在起，学会净化自己，发露忏悔过去所作的一切恶业，这是改变命运的重要方式。
If we sincerely repent to those who we've wronged, and if our karmic creditors truly forgive us, then the negative karmic imprintscan be eradicated at their root. Even standing before the King of Yama, when we repent with sincerity, our karma will be purified and our destiny will be transformed. Yet why wait to repent until then? From this very moment, learn to purify yourself and openly confess and repent for all the evil deeds committed in the past — this is a vital way to transform your destiny.
愿每一个人都不要经历中阴恐怖的险峡，直接往生极乐世界。这是对大家最好的祝愿。但无论如何，都不要忘了念佛、拼命念佛，或许在某一刻，佛陀的愿力就会作用在我们身上。
May each and everyone of us bypass the perilous gorge of bardo (the intermediate existence between death & reincarnation within the forty-nine days) & be reborn directly into the Pure Land. This is the best wish for everyone. Regardless, one should not forget to recite the name of Buddha, to recite it with utmost diligence, and perhaps, the strength of Buddha’s vow will then take its effect upon us at a certain moment.
