竭诚之心——
精诚所至,金石为开

even the hardest Diamond
can be broken if one has complete faith

我们今天来到五台山,来到古文殊寺,想在这里忏悔业障、有所觉醒,这个可能还是有的。真正难的是什么?就是来了也找不到忏悔的感觉。
Today we come to Wutai Mountain, come to Manjushiri Monastery, wish to repent our negative karma and to be awakened, which is probably your real feeling. But what’s the true difficult part? That is we cannot find any regretful sense in our heart even when we have come here.

我们生而为人,在迄今为止的岁月里做错过什么事、愧对过什么人,有没有想过弥补、是否曾当面坦承,这是任何一个佛弟子都需要认真思考的。包括生生世世的父母,我们必定也做了很多忤逆他们的事,这一世我们学佛了,就应该祈愿借助佛的力量,让自己成为佛菩萨救度历生父母的一个因缘。
As human beings and as Buddhists, we should think hard and try to remember what we have done wrong, who we have hurt and harmed in our life till now. Have we ever thought about how to make them up, how to repent our wrong doings in front of those we hurt? Including our parents in all the previous lives we have lived, we must have done many disrespectful and hurtful things to them. Thankfully this life we have the blessing to learn dharma, hence we should pray to gain the power from Buddha to become a channel for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to salvage all those sentient beings who have been our parents in the previous lives.
所以我们既然来到了寺庙,就要好好发愿,为一切法界如母有情精进修行——你们不懂得反省,我反省给你们看,你们不知道忏悔,我代你们忏悔。修行就要有这样至诚恳切的心态和觉悟。
Now that we have come to the monastery, we should raise a pure and grand vow to practice dharma diligently for the sake of all motherly sentient beings in the dharma realm – “If you don’t know the importance of confessing and don’t want to confess, I will confess for you and show you how to do it.” We should practice dharma with such thoroughly sincere attitude and consciousness.
诸佛菩萨的功德,凡夫如果没有升起虔诚之心是很难感应得到的。我们常说“精诚所至,金石为开”,这八个字也可以简缩为“精诚动物”,至诚的力量、虔诚的心是可以感天动地的,是可以转变物质的。
Without sincere and firm faith commoners can hardly understand and feel the profound merits and compassion of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, so that we shall not have any response then. We always talk about “Even the hardest diamond can be broken if one has complete faith”, this sentence can also be shortened as “Sincere faith can transform any material”. The strength of pure faith and sincerity can truly move the universe and can transform material and change some seemingly non-changeable things.
印光大师也说:“竭诚自可转凡心,念佛方能消宿业。”以竭诚之心面对三宝时,当下就能转我们凡夫的状态,当下就能感应于十方诸佛。这其实是同步的:当你能转变自己的时候,你就与佛相通了;当你与佛相通时,你就能转变自己了。
Master Yin Guang has also stated: “Pure faith can turn an ordinary human being’s heart into a sacred one, and only chanting Amitabha can eliminate ions of negative karma”. When we treat the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha) with pure and firm faith, our commoners’ status can be instantly turned around and channel with all the Buddhas in ten directions. It is actually simultaneous and reciprocal: when you change yourself, you are already connected with Buddha; when you are connected with Buddha, you can change yourself.
墨宝:离苦
我们为什么要在这里建庙?就是为了众生能得一点利益。讲到底,就是以建庙为由,让大家的心能有所依怙,有所“攀缘”。对世间的法攀缘是不好的,对三宝攀缘是好的,这叫“善法欲、正精进”。在世间法上精进容易迷失方向,在解脱路上则需要我们对修行和成佛有希求心。
Why do we want to build a monastery here? We want all sentient beings to be benefited. Ultimately we are trying to let your heart to have a physical monastery to be relied upon, to cling onto.For any worldly matters clinging onto something is not to be encouraged, but for clinginess to the Three Jewels is very good, this is called “Correct craving and desire, positive diligence”. Putting our energy on worldly matters with diligence will lead us to wrong directions while on the path to liberation from Samsara, it’s necessary to have aspirations and desire to achieve Buddhahood through practice of dharma

一架飞机有超过两百万个零件,我们寺院应该比飞机要复杂,大概不止两百万个零件了吧?我们这架“飞机”建造的目的就是要承载大家能够飞起来,回到净土的家。所以大家要跟得上节奏,身心要始终与这个最终目标相一致。
An aircraft has over two millions parts; our monastery is a more complicated structure than that of an aircraft, so it has at least more than two millions parts. The aim of building our aircraft of monastery is to carry all of you to fly to our home –the Pure Land. Therefore we should keep up with the pace, to keep our mind and behavior aligned with this ultimate goal.
这个寺庙从世间价值上来讲,是可以得出一个数字的,但它真实的价值根本无法估算,因为每个人的前程是无法估算的。我们这座寺庙,是出家师父和义工们一手建起来的,它的建成,又将度化多少有缘者追随三宝、获得解脱?这样想一想你就知道这个三宝地,它是无价的。
From worldly value we can give a monetary a concrete figure, but the true value of a monastery can never be calculated, because the future achievement of each of us is immeasurable. This monastery is built brick by brick by us monks and volunteers, by building it, how many sentient beings with connections to this project will follow the Three Jewels and be led to liberation from Samsara? Thinking about it, you will understand this place blessed by the Three Jewels is actually invaluable.
无价就是为了度我们。但如果我们的心还是像浮萍一样飘游不定,还怎么契合法性?
All these invaluable projects are for the purpose to liberate us from Samsara. If our hearts float as algae, how can we be connect with dharma?
其实只要心能定下来,无论从感恩或者感动出发,还是从惭愧或者忏悔出发,都容易顿然无我、契入法性。一个人真正生起强烈的忏悔心、随喜心时,这种殊胜的状态会巧妙地带领他超越所谓的“我”,那个自私自利的“我”。
In truth if we can settle our heart and mind in peace, no matter from the angle of gratitude or appreciation, guilty or repent, we can easily channel with dharma and enter the status of non-self. When someone can naturally raise the forceful feeling of regret, or rejoice for others, this sublime status will ingeniously lead us to surpass our ego and the selfish self.
印光大师称自己为“常惭愧僧”,就更何况是我们。这种惭愧只有真正发自内心,乃至充满每一个毛细孔时,我们才会产生真实的忏悔。
Master Yin Guang called himself “A Monk always feeling inferior”, let alone commoners like us. Only when this kind of regret is born from deep in heart, and is full of every pore, can the sincere regret and repent be produced.
有了真实的忏悔,你的生命链里所有与你冤冤相扣的众生就像链子“咔咔”剪断了一样,全部都可以获得解脱。所以你的命运就掌握在自己手中,你觉醒则与你有缘的无量众生也就有了希望。
With sincere regret, all those sentient beings, your debtors in your body and your life that you harmed in previous lives, can be relieved instantly just like a chain being cut off by a pair of scissor. So your life is controlled in your hand, your awakening will bring great hope to all those who have karma connections with you.

我们在轮回路上走了这么久,想要在这辈子断除,可想而知是一个很大的工程。大家一时没有进步,或者进步得比较慢,这都很正常。关键是,在这个过程中,你有没有生起至诚恳切的心、惭愧忏悔的心,有没有学会配合、懂得珍惜?
We have walked all the way in Samsara for long, you can imaging what a gigantic task it is to break the journey in this single life. Making no immediate progress or slow progress at a time is quite normal. What’s critical is whether we have managed to generate sincere faith, sincere regret of wrong doings, whether we have learnt to connect with Dharma, learnt to cherish the blessings?
珍惜我们在一起的时光,甚至要把我们的每一次见面都当作是最后一次。只有这样,你才算没有白来五台山。
Cherish the time we spend together, even to regard every gathering to be the last time we can see each other, only with this perspective, can you truly gain something from coming here
