 had once been 

the receiver of several Oscar awards.

从1999年上映至今，没有一部电影像它那样，能激发人们如此长久的思考。而它所揭示的佛教智慧，尤为明显、深刻。

Since its screening from year 1999 till now, there had been no other films which set people thinking long & hard like this film did. The wisdom of Buddhism unveiled by it is especially distinct & profound.

这部电影，建构了一个极具隐喻意味的“母体”（Matrix）系统。这个系统能产生虚拟实境的讯号，欺骗人类的大脑，将他们困在虚幻世界受其奴役。

This film constructed a very metaphorical-like matrix system. This system simulated reality modelled after the world, transmitting the signals, deceiving the brains of mankind and enslaving them in the illusory world.

影片中，那些没有被系统奴役的人们以黑客的身份，不断侵入“母体”，企图拯救被奴役的人。尼奥在他们的指引下，逃离了虚拟世界，回到了真正的现实中。

In the film, humans who had not been enslaved by the system took on the identity of hackers, constantly invading the matrix, attempting to save the enslaved humans. Under their guidance, Neo escaped from the illusory world and returned to the true reality.

影片构建的故事，同时也是对观众非常尖锐的提问，迫使我们思考：我们原本深信不疑的现实生活，是否可能也是某种更深层次的模拟结果？

Meanwhile, the story depicted in the film posed questions requiring the intellectual acuities of viewers, compelling us to think: could this reality of life that we firmly believe in be result of a simulation from something with much greater depths?

科学家告诉我们，我们的眼耳鼻舌身意，对色身香味触法，这些感官的感觉都是错误的。这世界无论从哪个角度来看，都没有一样实有的存在。就像弦论说的，如果把宇宙看作由宇宙弦组成的大海，那基本粒子就像是水中的泡沫，不断产生，也不断湮灭。

Scientists have told us that the forms, sounds, smell, taste, touch and phenomena produced by eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind respectively – the feelings produced by these senses are erroneous. Regardless of the perspectives taken from various point of views, not a single thing truly exists in this world. Just like what the string theory mentioned, if the universe is viewed as an ocean that is strung together by the universe, the fundamental particles would be like bubbles in the water, being repeatedly produced as well as repeatedly annihilated.

实际上早在两千多年前，佛陀就已经告诉我们，这一切都是虚幻的假相。色受想行识如同泡沫一般，都是和合的、缘起性空的、空无自性的。

In actual fact, more than two thousand years ago, Buddha had already told us that all of these are illusionary appearances which are unreal. Forms, feelings, perceptions, metal formations and consciousness – they are like bubbles, the result of coming together, arising from the nature of emptiness, empty and without any nature of its own.

每个人的心中都有一个“尼奥”，这就是我们的佛性。但是，当我们知道一切皆空，生命中的荣誉与喜乐都是脆弱的假象时，我们是否有勇气揭下这层美丽的画皮，离开虚幻的舒适区，无畏前途的风霜雨雪，毅然走向永恒与解脱？

There is a “Neo” in everyone’s heart, and that is our Buddha-nature. However, when we come to know that everything is but void in nature, that those glories & happiness in life are merely vulnerable illusions, would we have the courage to shed off this beautiful layer of painted skin, to step out of the illusionary comfort zone and to remain undaunted by the stormy path that lies ahead, taking the plunge and progress towards eternity & liberation?

很难。因为我执我见是很牢固的，我们的内心还会生起贪嗔痴，这习气是我们长久以来轮回的病。

It is very difficult, because the ouratma-graha (stubbornly holding on to things) and our own erroneous doctrine thinking that this Self is permanent and real – they are sturdy as rocks. And deep down inside, we still give rise to greed, hatred & ignorance; these bad habits are the sickness of Samsara which have been accumulated over a long period of time.

影片里，除了程序员塞弗，程序员毛茅斯也是如此。即使已然明白虚拟并非真实，却仍然执著于虚幻之乐。由此可见，扭转认佞作真的习气是每一个修行人的功课。

In the film, other than programmer Cypher, programmer Mouse is the same as well. Despite of knowing that everything is illusionary & unreal, the urge to indulge in the illusionary world is still there. Hence, this goes to show that reversing the recognition of the so-called truth is the job of every practitioner.  

这个世界就是缺乏觉悟。尼奥要是不觉悟，依然留在那个虚幻的世界里，就无论如何也不可能认识到那个世界的真实相。所以还要靠善知识来指引，给他讲解，学会看清真实相，明白我们的五浊恶世是怎么形成的。虽然从佛眼看来这世界的一切都是虚假的，但对众生来说要接受真相是很痛楚的。因为他生活在这里，欢喜在这里，痛苦在这里。

This world lacks awakening. Had Neo not been awakened and continued to stay on in the illusory world, there would be no way for him to escape from that illusory world and to recognize the truth of that world. Thus, one still relies on the guidance & explanation of the Kalyana-mittata (wise master), to learn to recognize the truth, to understand how this world of the Five Turbidities is formed. While everything in this world is seen as illusionary in the eyes of Buddha, it is still painful for sentient beings to accept this truth because one lives here, enjoys being here and also suffers here.

我们说修行苦，苦就苦在修自己的习气。我们要做自己生命的程序设计员，依靠佛教的智慧改变命运，转有漏为无漏。

While we mentioned that practicing is tough, the tough part lies in curbing one’s bad habits and practices. We should take charge and be the programmer of our lives, relying on the wisdom of Buddhism to change fate and transforming leakages (Asrava) into non-leakages (Anasrava).  

在影片的最后，尼奥不再受程序操纵，动作更加迅敏，能让子弹在空中停留，甚至钻入计算机的体内，将其炸成碎片。一如见道之人，现观无明处起，已到炉火纯青的地步，并能粉碎无明，真正脱离生死轮回。

Towards the ending of the film, when Neo was no longer manipulated by the programme, his actions became more agile, causing bullets to freeze in the mid-air. He entered the calculator and had it blown to pieces. Such is like one who had attained the Way, with the ability to contemplate the origins of ignorance, reached the realm of perfection and thus shattered ignorance into pieces, truly breaking free from the reins of Samsara.
