玄奘法师
玄奘法师西行求法时,路过一座寺院,在那里见到了一个全身长疮、流脓污臭的僧人。玄奘法师看在眼里,怜悯心起,虽然前路遥远,吉凶未卜,还是毫不犹豫留了下来,为他请医治病,照顾左右,直至痊愈。
就在玄奘法师准备起程时,僧人为表感激拿出了一卷梵文经典赠予法师,这就是佛弟子非常熟悉的《般若波罗蜜多心经》。正是得益于这一部《心经》,玄奘法师在接下来危难百出的求经路上,得以消障降魔,逢凶化吉。
善有善报,因果不虚。一个让自己的身口意处在善良状态的人,必然是上苍眷顾的人,他终会克服所有困难,终会度过所有危机。“好人好自己”,这一点永远不会过时。
Good deeds bring positive outcomes; cause and effect never fail. A person who maintains kindness in body, speech and mind is naturally favored by the heavens and will ultimately overcome all hardships and crises. "Goodness benefits oneself"—this principle will never lose its relevance.

A gentle and compassionate heart is a profoundly valuable spiritual asset. Through the sustained practice of kindness, our innate nobility and wealth of spirit gradually reveal themselves, and we come to recognize our true nature as that of a “great benefactor.”
善良的一面恢复了,佛性就恢复了,这就是人最大的财富。一切诸佛为众生故早就成佛了,我们这些始终为自己着想的、自私自利的人却还在轮回,所以,去恶存善是离苦得乐真正的因!
When kindness is restored, so is our Buddha-nature, and this is humanity’s greatest treasure. All Buddhas attained Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings long ago, while those of us who remain self-centered and selfish continue to cycle through samsara. Thus, eliminating evil and nurturing goodness is the true path to liberation from suffering and the attainment of lasting happiness.
佛教为什么能传到中国?因为我们的老祖先也认识到了这一点。孔老夫子说“克己复礼为仁”,能自觉地克服个人的私欲,恢复和扩大生命善良的一面,这才是人生的正道。
Confucius said, "Self-discipline and returning to ritual are the foundation of benevolence." To consciously overcome personal desires, restore and expand the virtuous side of life is the true path of life.
古人还说:“人之性也,善恶混,修其善则为善人,修其恶则为恶人。”但具体怎么戒恶、怎么修善、怎么剖析、怎么实践、怎么掌控,佛家相比儒家做得更细。

善良的一面恢复了,佛性就恢复了
佛是最圆满的人,祂是一切善具足,一切智具足。所以,一个走进佛门来向佛学习圆满的人,有没有钱不要紧,学历高低也不要紧,主要是看你的心,你的信心真不真,你的良善有没有生发。连基本的善都没有,是很难进入学佛的状态的。
For someone who enters the Buddhist path to learn and attain enlightenment from the Buddha, wealth and educational background do not matter. What truly matters is the heart—whether your faith is sincere and whether your kindness has arisen. Without even the basic foundation of goodness, it is difficult to enter the true state of learning Buddhism.
这个世界有多少人是天生就善良的,有多少人能不经过圣人的教导就得解脱?一个都没有。哪怕是大菩萨再来,照样迷失。为什么?这是五浊恶世啊!
我师父经常说:“是人本不善,亲近于善人,后必成善人,善名遍天下。”同样的,“是人本不恶,亲近于恶人,后必成恶人,恶名遍天下。”所以有先天的善根,还要有后天的修证,通过亲近善知识,在理论中思维,在实践中体悟。
My master often says, “If a person is not inherently good but draws close to good people, they will eventually become good, and their reputation for goodness will spread far and wide.” Similarly, “If a person is not inherently evil but associates with evildoers, they will eventually become evil, and their reputation for wrongdoing will also spread far and wide.” Thus, having innate virtuous roots is not enough; one must also cultivate and validate these qualities over time, seeking the guidance of wise teachers, contemplating the teachings, and gaining insight through practice.
修行是向内的,是对心灵世界的调整和开发。当你打开心怀,用善良对待他人,用光明对待世界时,就会对社会人心起到净化的效用。而这一份光明与善良也会成为你进入佛国的“入场券”。
Cultivation is an inward journey, an adjustment and development of one’s inner world. When you open your heart, treat others with kindness, and approach the world with a spirit of light, you contribute to the purification of the collective human mind. This light and kindness become your “entry pass” to the Buddha’s realm.
不修行,你的“善良”总会掺杂很多情绪,会摇摆不定。社会上有的人也发心行善,但没做两天,听到有人做好事被误解被诬陷,马上就歇手不做了。路上看到一个乞丐,本来想布施十块钱,一听旁人说现在都是“假乞丐”,递出的手马上就收回了。
Without cultivation, your “kindness” will often be mixed with various emotions, wavering and unsteady.
但其实,你要是给了这十块钱,是乞丐得到的多,还是你给的人得到的多?给的人才有福啊!乞丐可以是假的,但你的善良一定是真的。当你怀着怜悯良善的心,不求回报,不抱目的,布施出这十块钱的时候,当下你头顶上天堂的门就打开了!
When you offer with a compassionate and kind heart, asking for nothing in return and with no ulterior motives, even if it’s just ten yuans, in that very moment, the gate of heaven opens above your head!
所以,人世间完全善或完全恶的人很少,大多数是“墙头草”,东风来了往西倒,西风来了往东倒,也就是“不定”的人最多。
定在善中不动不摇
我们学佛,就要定在善中不动不摇,要做“西北风中一劲草”,有气节,有信念,有自己坚持的方向。一念至善很容易,难的是一辈子保持不变。孔夫子是“七十而从心所欲不逾矩”,守持了一辈子,习惯成自然,心不会再动,规矩不会再犯。这就是修行。
In our practice of Buddhism, we must remain unwavering in our commitment to goodness, like a “sturdy blade of grass in the northwest wind” with integrity, faith, and a clear sense of direction. It’s easy to experience a single moment of pure goodness, but far more challenging to uphold it consistently throughout life. Confucius reached the stage of “following his heart’s desires without breaking any boundaries” at seventy, having internalized virtue so deeply that it became second nature, where the heart no longer wavers, and rules are no longer broken. This is the essence of cultivation.
当我们的善良不仅出于本能,还更进一步变成一种理智的坚持时,这就是慈悲。慈悲是一种选择,它跟善良之间有共性,但它是理性选择的结果。
When our kindness flows not only from innate nature but also from a reasoned commitment, it becomes compassion. Compassion is a choice. Though it shares common ground with kindness, it arises from a conscious, rational decision.
我们的善良如果不经过理智的辨识和提升,有时候很快就会泯灭掉,甚至不经过智慧指导的善良,还有可能会被人利用。而慈悲不会,它是坚定并且智慧的状态。
If kindness is not refined through rational discernment and elevation, without guide by wisdom, it may fade quickly or even lead to being taken advantage of. Compassion, however, remains unwavering; it is a state of resolve and wisdom.
比较标准地说,慈是予乐,悲是拔苦,而且不分对象,叫“无缘大慈,同体大悲”。所以,慈悲更具有高度,它是一个圣人、一个智者的生命情怀。但同时也表明,这样一种高贵的品质,也是在善良的基础上通过理智地规范,坚定地修炼,最后才达到的一种格局、一种高度。
More precisely, compassion involves “giving joy” (慈) and “relieving suffering” (悲) without discrimination—known as “boundless compassion” and “universal empathy.” Compassion, therefore, carries a higher quality; it is the emotional depth of a sage or wise person. This noble quality is cultivated from a foundation of kindness, disciplined through reason, and solidified through steadfast practice, reaching profound depth and height over time.

在这样的高度下,你就会知道,这个社会不是适者生存,是善者生存。吃素是善,放生是善,微笑是善,软语是善,更进一步,戒贪、戒嗔、戒痴,精进修行、普皆回向,在善的路途上我们一步一步深入和提高,而当下这每一步都会成为我们送给未来的自己最好的礼物。

At this level, we understand that this society is not about the survival of the fittest, but the survival of the kind-hearted. Kindness takes many forms: eating a vegetarian diet, liberating lives, offering a smile, or speaking gently. Progressing further, it includes refraining from greed, hatred, and ignorance, practicing diligently, and universally dedicating merits. On the path of goodness we develop and raise ourselves step by step, and each step will become the best gift we offer to our future selves.
