This Phrase of the Buddha’s Name Is Truly Marvellous.
我们念佛,这是得自本师释迦佛陀的介绍。
佛陀说,去此向西过十万亿佛土有世界名极乐,其中有佛号阿弥陀,成佛以来于今十劫,今现在说法。阿弥陀佛以四十八大愿接引众生往生其国,既得往生不仅不受三恶道苦,连苦的名字都听不到。其中诸上善人俱会一处,声闻缘觉无量,菩萨更是无量无边,我们念的“南无阿弥陀佛”,从持名上来说这是佛的名号,佛的名号是万德洪名,具足了佛福慧圆满的功德体。就是我们什么都不懂,刚刚学会说话,念“南无阿弥陀佛”,也可以得极大的一种安定,可以稳住心,令心不乱。所以念佛不仅仅三根普被,念佛也通人天乘,得人天善业增长。
When we recite 'Namo Amitabha,' from the perspective of name recitation, this is the Buddha’s name. The Buddha’s name is one of immense virtue, encompassing the merit body of the Buddha’s perfect blessings and wisdom. Even if we understand nothing and have just learned to speak, by reciting 'Namo Amitabha,' we do gain a great sense of stability, calming the mind and preventing it from becoming scattered. Therefore, the recital of the Buddha’s name blesses all beings across the three levels of spiritual capacity and also connects with the human and heavenly realms, elevating the wholesome karma of human and heavenly beings.
如果我们发起大菩提心为一切众生而念,那这一句“南无阿弥陀佛”就是无限的,是属于不生不灭法的。
If we generate the great
Bodhicitta and
recite for the sake of all
sentient beings,
then this single phrase of 'Namo Amitabha' becomes infinite and forms the Dharma that is neither born nor extinguished.
悟公上人在讲《金刚经》的时候,说得很特别,他说:“云何降伏其心,云何安住其心?”上人给出的答案就是:“念佛降伏其心,念佛安住其心。”
When Venerable Grand Master Wu-gong preached the Diamond Sutra, he explained it in a particularly unique way. He said: 'How does one subdue the mind? How does one calm the mind?' Ven. Grand Master's answer was: 'By reciting the Buddha’s name, the mind is subdued; by reciting the Buddha’s name, the mind is calmed.
包括须菩提尊者请教佛陀,以何法得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提?佛陀回答,以念佛观可以得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。所以你的念佛观如何,其实就赋予了你的念佛怎样的内涵。
So, your perspective on the recital of the Buddha’s name directly determines the meaning and depth you impart to it.
我们学了天台宗的藏、通、别、圆,如果以圆教的见来念佛的话,请问能不能成佛?佛陀在讲《阿弥陀经》的时候,虽然也摄三乘,但是祂最不共的功德,还是“唯佛与佛方能究竟了知”,这就是指圆解的见。所以才说“不假方便,自得心开”,圆的见一见到底,哪里还假以方便。像禅门祖师一样,他的见地就是直破三关,当下圆成的,一即一切。
所以,“南无阿弥陀佛”,我们念的人如果能明白它的道理,自然就不会住眼耳鼻舌身意,也不住色声香味触法,不住色受想行识五蕴而生其心,
When we recite 'Namo Amitabha,' if we can truly understand its principles, we will naturally not be attached to the faculties of the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, or mind, nor will we be attached to form, sound, smell, taste, tactile sensation, or phenomena. We will not be bound by the five aggregates—form, sensation, perception, mental formations, and consciousness—as the basis for generating our thoughts.
那这一句佛号就叫什么?那就属于“宝王剑”。犹如文殊菩萨拿着智慧燃烧的宝王剑一样,我见、烦恼、五蕴、生死乃至天魔,都能融化于其中。
这就知道,这一句佛号有多奇妙。
