“三世诸佛,依般若波罗蜜多故,得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提”,过去一切诸佛都依此而圆满了“无上正等正觉”。因为“无上正等正觉”,不能离开佛性的“因”,有这个“因”才会有这个“果”。 一切诸佛都是依般若波罗蜜多故,“得”阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。“因”是“无智亦无得”,“果”却是“得”“阿耨多罗三藐三菩提”,这里有个“得”字,“果”是需要你“净念相继”护念着,最后才能有这个成“果”。
“因”是不需要“得”的,每个人佛性的“因”是剥夺不掉的 —— 即“理需顿悟”——“果”,却是一个缘起、一个“因缘”,你有没有护念?佛陀在《涅槃经》里说:不能说每个人都有佛性一定成佛,这样说是错误的。应该怎么说呢?一切众生皆有佛性,当他觉悟到自己佛性的时候,戒恶修善,积累功德资粮,最后圆满了,他最后就能成佛 —— 即“事需渐修”。
也不能说:这个人很坏,永远成不了佛。应该说:他现在无明,没有觉悟到自己的本性;如果觉悟了,以后真能忏悔业障,能够戒恶修善,最后圆满了,也是可以成佛的。所以,不能说一阐提不能成佛,也不能说他有佛性就能成佛。佛在《涅槃经》里很清晰地这样告诉我们。
所以,“因缘”很重要啊!——“因”、“缘”、“果”、“报”,佛教讲“因缘果”三个字。我师父也这样告诉我们:佛、菩萨、善知识来世间,依着众生佛性的“因”,给他种这个“缘”,让它增长。过去种的,现在成熟;现在种的,让它因缘增长,以后成熟。佛菩萨来世间不空过,做众生成佛的助道因缘。
Thus, "causes and conditions" are incredibly important! In Buddhism, we speak of "cause," "condition," "result," and "retribution," often summarized as "causes and conditions leading to fruition" (因缘果). My master also explained it to us this way: Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and virtuous teachers come into the world relying on sentient beings' Buddha-nature as the "cause," planting and nurturing the "condition" so it can grow. The seeds planted in the past are maturing now; those sown now will grow through the interplay of causes and conditions and ripen in the future. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas do not come to this world in vain—they serve as the supportive conditions for sentient beings to attain Buddhahood.
佛陀说:法,我都讲了,如果你们不按照我的法做,我在你面前也没用;如果你们能够尊重、守护我的法,能够依教奉行,即使我“不在”,跟“在”是一样的。所以,“法”为诸佛之母,“法”为菩萨母。
The Buddha said: "The Dharma I have expounded is complete. If you do not practice according to my teachings, my physical presence before you holds no benefits. But if you respect, uphold the Dharma with devoted practice, then whether I am physically present or not makes no difference.” Thus, the Dharma is the mother of all Buddhas and the mother of all Bodhisattvas.
三宝里面,“法宝”—— 位置很高!
“法”是我们成道的重要因缘;所以传法的善知识,是我们破迷开悟、转邪成正非常重要的因缘,没有善知识切入到我们的生命中来,提携我们,我们很难觉悟!这即是“尊师重道”的宗旨。
The Dharma is a crucial condition for our attainment of enlightenment. Therefore, virtuous teachers who transmit the Dharma are vital causes and conditions for us to break through delusion, awaken to the truth, and transform from distorted views into right understanding. Without such virtuous teacher entering our lives to guide and uplift us, it would be exceedingly difficult for us to attain realization. This is precisely the principle behind "revering the teacher and honoring the Dharma."
