有根之树  枝繁叶茂-

前面知晓了，“四书五经”讲什么也就明白了。道教怎样修身修炼精气神：炼精化气、炼气还神、炼神还虚、炼虚合道，大家也会找到入手的地方。佛教的精华大家也通晓了，中华民族的文化精神就找到了。这时大家就会感恩：原来父母慈悲，生了我这个“身”，然后圣贤还给我这个“身”里装“灵魂”，圣贤也像父母一样啊 !

Once we have an understanding of the above-mentioned, we will be able to comprehend the teachings of the Four Books and Five Classics. What does Taoism teach on how to cultivate ourselves and train our vitality, energy and spirit? We need to train such that our vitality transforms into energy that can be returned to the spirit which can in turn be returned to the void that then merges with the Dao. We will be able to find a point of entry to practice. Once everyone of us is well-versed with the essence of Buddhist practice, we will also be able to find the essence and spirit of the culture of the Chinese people. At this juncture, we will realize that it is due to our parents’ loving-kindness and compassion that we have been given this physical body, and that the soul which is contained within this body has been given to us by the virtuous and sagely ones who, due to that, are also like our parents.

中国人说“三个好人”：父母、老师和医生。老师，传道、授业、解惑，“解”我们生命的迷惑，“传”灵魂中的大道，每个人都有“心”，有心者皆当作佛，这是老师给我们的启迪。除了感恩父母，还要感恩老师，要知道圣贤思想在那里，其实就是让我们能够立起腰杆做人。在天地之间，我们是一个人，能体悟大道，与天地共参。所谓“天地人三才”，我们能够成长为一个顶天立地的人 !

We Chinese speak of the ‘three good people’, they being our parents, our teachers, and our doctors. The teacher propagates the path, passes down a skill, and clarifies on what we are unclear about. He clears up the confusion and uncertainties we have in our life, and teaches on the Great Dao that is found within our soul – inspiring us by telling us that since everyone of us has a mind, we are able to become a Buddha. We need to be grateful not only to our parents but to our teachers as well, and we need to realize that the philosophies of the virtuous and sagely ones are to enable us to become upright human beings. Being a human person between the heaven and the earth, we will be able to come together as one with them once we have realized the Great Dao. This is called ‘the three constituents of heaven, earth and human’ – we are able to be a human person who stands upright and holds up the sky!

主持人：法师刚才的话让我特别有感触，这个“精气神”从哪来，我觉得已回答得非常透彻了，要把中华优秀传统文化的 “根”找到。

有了这个观念，会让你我特别珍惜每一次相会的缘分。佛经里也讲到人身难得，有多难呢？就像一个瞎了眼睛的乌龟在大海底下，法师，它是五百年浮上来多少次？

Moderator: I have been especially touched by what the master has just spoken. I feel that the question of where this vitality, energy and spirit originates has been answered very thoroughly – it is to be found within the root of the fine traditional culture of the Chinese.

Once we have this in mind, we will especially cherish every opportunity that enables us to meet. It has also been mentioned in the Buddhist scriptures that it is difficult for one to obtain human existence. How difficult is that? It is like a blind turtle at the bottom of a great ocean…how many times, Master, does it float up to the surface within 500 years?

传喜法师：五百年浮上来一次，在汹涌的海涛里还碰到一根木头，木头板中有个洞，这个瞎眼的乌龟五百年浮上来一次，恰好这个头就钻进这个洞里。我们获得一次人身，就如同这个瞎眼乌龟遇到这个洞的几率。

Master Chuan-Xi: Once every 500 years to touch a piece of wood floating on the raging waves. There is a hole in this piece of wood through which the blind turtle raises its head nicely. The odds of us being born into a human existence is like the chance of that turtle raising its head through the hole in that piece of wood.

主持人：多么难得 ! 还有一句叫“佛法难闻”，今天我们这么荣幸地请到了这样三位大德聚在这里，来跟我们分享他们生命的体验。最后，请三位嘉宾给现场、网络直播的所有观众、天下所有的众生一个祝福。请传喜法师为我们开示。

Moderator: How unlikely is that! There is also a saying that ‘the teaching of the Dharma is hard to come by’. It is such an honour for us to have the three speakers with great virtues to come and share their life experiences with us today. Finally, let us have our three guests give their blessings to everybody here, those of us watching our live stream on the internet, and all myriad beings in the world. Let us invite Master Chuan-Xi to enlighten us.

传喜法师：九华山有位肉身菩萨，他留在人间一句话：好人好自己，坏人坏自己。

有个人死了之后到阎王那里，阎王说：“你不要委屈，我再给你一次做人的机会。你选，是让一万个人为你服务，还是你为一万个人服务。”他说：“我肯定要选一万个人为我服务。”结果他又死了之后，见了阎王特别后悔，因为他做了一辈子乞丐。阎王说：“ 如果你为一万个人服务，你就是皇帝；一万个人为你服务，你就是乞丐。”他选错了。

Master Chuan-Xi: There is a flesh-body Bodhisattva in Mount Jiu Hua who left a saying that the one who does good benefits himself while one who does bad hurts himself. A person had passed away and was met in Hell by the king of Hell who asked him, if given another chance to be human again, whether he would want to be one who would be served by ten thousand people or one who would lead a life of servitude to ten thousand people. He answers, ‘I will of course choose to be served by ten thousand people.’ When he died again and met the King of Hell, he told the king that he regretted his decision for he had become a beggar. The king told him, ‘You would have become an emperor if you had chosen to serve ten thousand people; you became a beggar instead because you had chosen to be served by ten thousand people.’ He had made the wrong choice.

我们应当认识到，利他实际上是在利己，如果能在利他中与自己的本心相应、相融、相遇、相伴，你就是在造化自己。你的行为总是能与向善的本心相称，总是不由自主地生出利他之心，你是在自塑一个纯粹的人，你的佛性会自然升华。

We have to realize that in helping others, we are in fact helping ourselves. If, in the process of helping others, we are able to have mutual resonance with our original mind – meet, merge and be together with it – we will already be transforming ourselves. Your conduct will invariably be in agreement with your original mind that is always aspiring to goodness, and you will always instinctively want to help others. Your Buddha-nature will be naturally enhanced as you try to become a person in the purest sense.

今天在场的众人里面，最大的受益者是我自己，因为在启发大家的时候，被启发的人，其实首先就是我自己。

今天我们的相遇就像这暮春的花朵，繁花缤纷。当然，也像这朵朵花瓣与我们擦肩而过一样，转眼分离。但希望今天会有一片花瓣的芬芳能伴随你的心灵，在你的心中永远留有那一丝的芳香！

The person who has benefitted the most among all of us here today is me because I am, in fact, the first to be inspired when I inspired everyone.

Our meeting today is like the flowers in late spring – dazzling and colourful. And of course, just like with every petal which we have brushed ourselves against, we take leave of each other in a blink of the eye. However, it is my hope that the fragrance of a single petal will stay with your spiritual self, and that this whiff of fragrance will remain forever in your mind!
