渐离生死






First awareness: The world is impermanent; country is vulnerable & fragile; four elements (physical body) signify hardship yet unreal; self is non-existent (Anatman) in the five skandhas; life and death keep varying. They are illusionary with no control. The mind is the root of all evils, the form of it is sinful. Thus, if one can observe what is within and exercise mindfulness, one can gradually break free from life and death.

美国加州山火

从天堂到地狱

2018年11月8日,

在美国加州比尤特县天堂镇发生山火。

此次山火已成为加州历史上

最具破坏性的一次火灾。

截至2018年11月17日,

加州北部大火

造成的死亡人数上升至82人,

失踪人数约有为700人,

房屋损毁约13500所。

如何脱离火难?


这次大火虽然不是历史上最大的一次,却是死亡人数和失踪人数最多的一次。那么如何运用佛法脱离火难?

《观世音菩萨普门品》云:“若有持是观世音菩萨名者,设入大火,火不能烧,由是菩萨威神力故。”

第一觉悟蕅益大师总结为“无常无我觉”。世间无常,国土危脆,这就是无常,就是我们的依报。依报是指身心依止的身外之物,像国土世界,山河大地,房屋衣粮等。但这些都是无常而危脆的,随时都会遭受刮风下雨、地震台风的侵袭。


Great Master Ou Yi summarizes that the first awareness as “Awareness of impermanence & Anatman”. The world is impermanent, country is vulnerable and fragile, this is impermanence, and is the result of our reliance on external surroundings, which means that the body and mind are dependent on worldly possessions like the country, world, mountains, rivers, earth, housing, clothes and food etc. But all these are impermanent, vulnerable and fragile, and can at any point of time, be subjected to the attacks of wind, rain, earthquake and typhoon. 

 

从外在的依报到身体的正报,五阴里色、受、想、行、识,都是生灭变异的,这是佛的智慧为我们照见的。世间无常,国土危脆,四大苦空,五阴无我。我们现在读到这些句子的时候,要看到字句当中所呈现出的释迦佛陀的智慧和悲悯之心。真正体验到这一点了,就会生起无伪的信心而于昼夜至心诵念。


From the result of reliance on external surroundings to the body that is a result of direct retribution from past existence, within the five skandhas – rupa (physical form relating to the five senses), vedana (functioning of mind in connection with affairs and things), sanjna (functioning of mind in distinguishing), samskara (functioning of mind in processes regarding like and dislike, good and evil etc.), vijnana (perception and cognition), they are all varying with life and death. This comes from the Buddha’s wisdom. The world is impermanent, Country is vulnerable & fragile, Four elements (physical body) signify hardship yet unreal, self is non-existent (Anatman) in the five skandhas. When we read these sentences now, we should see Shakyamuni Buddha’s wisdom and compassionate heart emerging through the words. Upon true experiencing of this point, unfeigned confidence will arise and one will recite them sincerely each day and night.

佛陀涅槃的时候,阿难尊者一次次哭晕过去,佛陀出兜罗绵手安慰他,“阿难不要伤心,我以后将现文字相住在这个世间”。末法时代以信心得度,信怎么生起?实际就是在经典的文字当中,你除了得到智慧的加持也看到了佛陀绵绵密密的悲悯。


While the Buddha entered Nirvana, Ananda kept fainting from all the crying. The Buddha held out his cottony soft hand to comfort him: “Ananda, do not be sad. In future, I will take on the form of words to stay in this world”. In the era of Saddharma-vipralopa (era where Dharma is ending), enlightenment is attained via confidence. How does such confidence arise? In actual fact, it comes from within the words in the sutra, other than receiving the blessings of his wisdom, you will also see the Buddha’s impenetrable compassion.  

 

当佛的智慧通过文字为我们灌顶的时候,我们的身心世界就会产生正觉见,正觉知,有了这样的智慧与觉知,就能够渐离生死。


When the Buddha’s wisdom passes on as words to empower us, the world of our body and mind will then develop Sambodhi (wisdom of Buddha), Samyagdrsti (the right views & understanding of the four noble truths) and the right knowledge. With such kind of wisdom and knowledge, one can gradually break free from life and death.  

 

但是世间不懂的人,他会以为山河大地是常住的,又执着身体为己身,不知四大,不明五阴,于种种境界、五欲六尘都看作自心之相,这样一来,心就变成了万恶之源。


But to those ignorant worldly beings, they will think that the mountains, rivers and earth are meant for permanent stay, and are obsessed with the physical body thinking that it belongs to self, not being aware of the four elements, not understanding the five skandhas, staying in various realms, seeing the five desires and six gunas as the appearance of one’s mind. In this way, the mind will become the root of all evils.

贤劫千佛心  响崖大德知

现后中救我  脱轮到菩提


 回 向

文殊师利勇猛智   普贤慧行亦复然

我今回向诸善根   随彼一切常修学

三世诸佛所称叹   如是最胜诸大愿

我今回向诸善根   为得普贤殊胜行

如昔诸善逝 先发菩提心

复此循序住 菩萨诸学处

如是为利生 我发菩提心

复于诸学处 次第勤修学
