九六年四月十五,在恩师悟公上人的摄受下,我在新昌大佛寺开始闭关。
三年后,就在药王菩萨圣诞日这一天圆满出关,今年已经二十五年了。
On April 15, 1996, under the guidance of my benevolent teacher, Venerable Grand Master Wu Gong, I began my retreat at the Great Buddha Temple in Xinchang.
Three years later, on the anniversary of Bhaiṣajyarāja Bodhisattva, I completed the retreat. This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary.
四月十五,师父亲自带领全寺院为我们做送关的仪式。
On April 15, Master personally led the entire monastery in a ceremony to send us off into retreat.
出关的日子是我自己选的,我给师父写了一个申请,师父搭着红祖衣,在一千五百多年的大石佛面前,带着全体僧众亲自主法,做这样一个闭关圆满的法会。这一天,也变成我们修行非常重要的纪念。
I chose the date for concluding the retreat and wrote a request to Master. Draped in a red kasaya, Master, accompanied by the entire monastic community, personally presided over the ceremony in front of the great fifteen-hundred-year-old stone Buddha. This day has since become a very important commemoration day of our practice.
我闭的是净土关,念阿弥陀佛。我给自己的关房起了个名字,叫“香光庄严室”。
I dedicated my retreat to the Pure Land, reciting the name of Amitabha Buddha. I named my retreat room "Room Adorned with Fragrance and Light."
这个名字,出自《大势至菩萨念佛圆通章》:“若众生心,忆佛念佛,现前当来,必定见佛;去佛不远,不假方便,自得心开。如染香人身有香气,此则名曰香光庄严。”
This name comes from the "Chapter on Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva's Perfect Realization with Mindfulness of the Buddha": "If a sentient being’s mind contemplates and recites the Buddha, he will certainly see the Buddha in the present or future. He will not be far from the Buddha, and without any effort, his mind will open. Just like a person selling incense, his body carries the fragrance. This is hence called the adornment of fragrance and light.
闭关不仅仅是指住茅棚、住木头房、住石头房,一生你能沉浸于悲心当中,这就是闭关啊。
Retreat is not only about living in a thatched hut, wooden house, or stone house. If you can immerse yourself in compassion throughout your life, this is also a retreat.
我们在善知识的摄受之中不乱跑,安住于善知识的摄受之中不去攀缘,实际上就是一种隐修,就是一种闭关。
We do not wander aimlessly under the guidance of wise spiritual teachers. Peacefully dwelling in the guidance of wise spiritual teachers without manipulating external connections is, in fact, a form of reclusive practice, a form of retreat.
这些年也会有人来问我:
“师父,你的传承是什么?”
我说:“我的传承犹如黄金一般。”
Over the years,
people have asked me,
"Master, what is your lineage?"
I reply, "My lineage is akin to gold."
为什么呢?
经过当年劫难的淬炼,像师父他们这一批出家人真的就像佛菩萨一样,都是化现到人间来救度我们的。真金不怕火炼,在种种考验下,他们始终保持对三宝不动不摇的信心,保持对众生深深的悲悯。
看到他们,想到他们,
就知道佛陀的悲心愿力从来没有离开。
Why?
Because after enduring the trials and tribulations of those years, the monastics of my Master's generation are truly like Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, manifesting in the human realm for the sake of our liberation. True gold fears no fire.
Despite various trials, they have always maintained the unwavering faith in the Triple Gem, maintained a deep compassion for sentient beings.
Seeing them, reminiscing about them,
one realizes that the compassionate vows of the Buddha have never left us.

直到今天,我所走的每一步、所做的每一件事,都没有离开师父的教导。
我们是佛法的受用者,
同时努力地成为这世间佛法的延续者。
To this day,
every step I take, every task I perform,
has never strayed from my Master's teachings.
We are beneficiaries of the Dharma and strive to perpetuate the Dharma in this world.
