Practice as Such
on Summer Solstice

Practice as Such on Summer Solstice
Summer Solstice marks the turning point of the sun. The sun reaches its northernmost point, the days are longest, and the shadows are shortest, hence the name summer solstice.
Yang energy flows outwards during summer. Following summer solstice, yang energy reaches its peak and yin energy starts to grow, with yin energy residing within while yang energy flows outwards. Therefore, it is necessary to protect and nurture yang energy in health care.
More often than not, we would say "Every day is a good day" because each day is so uniquely wonderful that it does not repeat itself. The angles of the Sun, Moon, and Earth vary each day, thus, the energy generated as they traverse the cosmos is different each day as well.
If we engender the bodhicitta, possess the correct view of emptiness, uphold pure precepts, samadhi, and wisdom, and maintain purity in body, speech, and mind, footprints of virtuous karma will be left behind each day.
When we set the Buddhist views on life, world, and values as our benchmarks in life, we will leave "footprints of merit" in time and space.
Upon awakening, we would cherish our own lives as well as the lives of others and all things in heaven and earth.
Should we possess Sambodhi, our merits from precepts, samadhi, and wisdom will then connect with the Buddha, allowing us to be one with the Buddha and all sentient beings.
While saints are cultivated through practice, mortals are self-made too.
Life spans several decades, and whether it is spent well or in turmoil, it is a lifetime. According to Buddhism, today’s destiny is determined by yesterday, and tomorrow’s destiny is determined by today.
"To know the causes of previous lives, look at what one receives in this life. To know the effects of future lives, look at what one is doing in this life."
If we can keep our minds clear each day and constantly remind ourselves to cease evil and cultivate good, this is called practice.
