丰子恺皈依佛门,弘一法师给他作了一番开示。弘一法师将简约的皈依文念完,依法授毕三皈依,对子恺说:“子恺!从今天起,你正式皈依佛门了。望你以已有的成就,护持佛法;并以已有的深愿,行持佛法;以所有的知识,弘扬佛法。”
「人做端正了,才是学佛的开始」
“在佛法上,有下列数事,要居士谨记!”弘一法师深沉而严肃地说:“第一、做一个佛弟子,不能在形式上接受了皈依仪式,便算完了。当你作为佛教的宏扬人以后,你的人格必先经过自我洗涤一番;过去的,譬如昨日死;以后,犹如今日生——直心是道,请你在任何情况下深深牢记,不要为习惯所欺,做欺心、欺人、蒙蔽良心的事;人做端正了,才是学佛的开始。”
"First and foremost, as a disciple of the Buddha, one cannot simply partake in the formalities of the refuge ceremony and consider the journey complete. When you take on the role of the promoter of Buddhism, your character must first undergo the process of self-purification. Let the past be as though it died yesterday, and the future as though it is born today. A mind that is straightforward and sincere is the true path—please hold this deeply in your heart under all circumstances. Do not allow yourself to be misled by habits or engage in actions that deceive yourself, others, or obscure your conscience. Only when a person conducts themselves uprightly does the journey of learning Buddhism begin."

「净心的方法,便是‘持戒’」
“第二,因为学佛,便是根本的‘净心’行为;净心的方法,便是‘持戒’,如若不持戒而学佛,去佛便路遥了。
"Second, the practice of Buddhism is, at its core, an endeavor to 'purify the mind.' The primary method for achieving this purification is through the observance of precepts. Without observing the precepts, any attempt to practice Buddhism will inevitably lead one further away from the path to the Buddha."
因此,盼望居士先从少分戒行开始律己,如居士者,不妨先从‘邪淫戒、偷盗戒、杀生戒’持起,然后再扩及‘妄语戒、饮酒戒。’
在世间唯一难行的,不是杀生戒,也不是邪淫戒,而是妄语戒;有许多无辜的灾祸,不幸的纠纷,与悲惨的遭遇,都是从‘妄语’而来。说到‘妄’,唯一能制持它的工夫,便是一颗诚心,对人对事的恭敬,不掉以轻心!”
Many innocent disasters, unfortunate disputes, and tragic encounters arise from ‘false speech.‘ The only effective way to overcome ‘falsehood’ is by cultivating a sincere heart—one that engages with people and situations with genuine respect and unwavering attentiveness, never treating them carelessly."
「慢“第三,要试图放宽心量,包容世间的丑恶。」
“Third, one must endeavor to expand the capacity of their heart and cultivate tolerance toward the imperfections and ugliness of the world."
人家赞美我,我心生欢喜,但不为欢喜激动;也许这欢乐之后,便是悲伤。人家辱骂我,我不加辩白,让时间去考验对方。”
“世间的形形色色,我们所爱的,所憎的,所苦的,所怕的,所愤的,所悲伤的,乃至令人难以忍受的烦躁、感受、接触。我们要学着试图包容:它们来了,我们淡然处之,它们从我们身边滑过,我们也不可幸灾乐祸。
人生,便是一场既悲且喜的过程,但中间没有一件足以任人轻视;世间每一个动机,每一种事物形态,不管强者、弱者、女人、小孩,他们心灵感受,都会发生不可想象的力量,原因是他们既是生物,自然有感情,有感情便有动力,有动力,便可毁灭事物,也可成就事物。
Life is a journey interwoven with both sorrow and joy, and not a single moment within it should be taken lightly. Every intention and every form of existence—whether it belongs to the strong or the weak, to women or to children— carries within it an unimaginable power. As living beings, all are endowed with emotions, and where there are emotions, there arises motivation. This motivation carries the potential to either destroy or accomplish great things.
复次,他们也有圣贤的情操,企图被尊重。被崇爱,被同情;但惟有一点,不愿被欺骗,不愿被蒙蔽;因此,他们那颗形式上是骄傲的心,在实质上,便是赤子之心。
Furthermore, they embody the noble qualities of sages, yearning to be respected, admired, and compassioned with. Yet there is one thing they cannot bear: unwilling to be deceived and misled. Beneath the appearance of pride, their heart, at its core, remains the innocence of the infant.
你欺骗一个小孩,如被他发现了,他小脑筋里,将永远拂不掉你丑恶的影子,即使你再神圣,再被人讴歌颂扬,也不能获得孩子的爱。
当孩子的时代,没有名利观念。不晓得什么是利害,他只知道‘爱’。你对他一百件好,有一件欠诚心,欠感情,他一旦发觉,一切便完了!在佛法修持上,是善不抵恶;在世间的名器上,是功不抵罪的……”
In childhood, there is no concept of fame or profit. They do not discern what is advantageous or harmful; they only understand 'love.' If you treat them with kindness a hundred times but lack sincerity or genuine feeling even once, and they perceive it, all trust is lost. In the practice of Buddhism, virtue cannot outweigh wrongdoing; in the worldly realm, merit cannot offset fault.
“子恺啊!我们要学着包容一切,这样方能养成不分亲疏厚薄的悲心,才能平静地看世界。只有如此,人间才有无限的美丽展开;佛陀不在内,不在外,而在你的灵性中间;
"Zikai, we must learn to embrace all things with an open heart. Only then can we cultivate an impartial compassion that makes no distinction between closeness or distance, favor or neglect, allowing us to view the world with true tranquility. In this way, the boundless beauty of humanity can fully unfold. The Buddha is neither outside nor within but dwells in the very essence of your spirit.
你的灵性有美可圈可点,世界自然有美皆备,无美不收。”
“子恺——”弘一法师稍歇一下,又说:“你的世间成就,是我所不及的,但是,我们都是一样,都还需要试图学习,在学的过程中,才有善的累积。在树的年轮之外,那外围的粗皮,虽不美好,可是它有保护作用,也是功德无量呀!”
丰子恺听完弘一法师的开示,满眼湿润,热血沸腾。
