佛法上一字之差,会落什么因果?
What are the Karmic Consequences Brought about by the Difference in a Single Dharma word?
佛陀在世的时候,有两亿(此处为古印度计数之亿)人听说过佛的名字,有两亿人亲自见过佛陀,还有两亿人不知道世界上有佛陀存在。虽然跟佛陀共同生活在天地间,但是对佛不闻不知。
During the Buddha's lifetime, there were 200 million people who had heard of his name, 200 million who had seen him in the flesh, and 200 million who were unaware of his existence. Although they lived in the same world as the Buddha, they were oblivious to his presence.
同样的,佛陀的真理之身已经在这世界住下来了,三宝已经住世了,但是这世界上还有人不知道,还有人不理解,还有人误解。要改善现状!这就是我们的工作责任所在。
Similarly, the Buddha's true teachings have already been established in this world, and the Triple Gem are present. Yet, there are still those who do not know, do not understand, or have misunderstood these teachings. It is our responsibility to improve this situation.
弘法利生,原是我们的家务,但首先我们佛弟子自己要修行,要理清这个思路。如果了解得少,就拣自己懂的说一点,不要多说,多说要是说错了就不行。
It has been our duty to propagate the dharma for the benefit of beings, but first and foremost, we as Buddhist disciples must cultivate ourselves and clarify our own understanding. If our knowledge is limited, we should only speak of what we truly understand and refrain from saying too much. If we speak beyond our understanding, we may make mistakes, and that can lead to undesirable consequences.

真正的善知识,去寻求了义的法要。

野狐 | 因果
YIN GUO
(百丈怀海)师每上堂,有一老人随众听法。一日众退,唯老人不去。师问:“汝是何人?”老人曰:“某非人也。于过去迦叶佛时,曾住此山,因学人问:‘大修行人还落因果也无?’ 某对云:‘不落因果。’ 遂五百生堕野狐身,今请和尚代一转语,贵脱野狐身。” 师曰:“汝问。” 老人曰:“大修行人还落因果也无?” 师曰:“不昧因果。” 老人于言下大悟,作礼曰:“某已脱野狐身,住在山后。敢乞依亡僧津送。” 师令维那白椎告众,食后送亡僧。大众聚议,一众皆安,涅槃堂又无病人,何故如是?食后师领众至山后岩下,以杖挑出一死野狐,乃依法火葬。

What are the Karmic Consequences Brought about
by the Difference in a Single Dharma word?
大修行人落因果吗?“因果”两个字囊括了世出世间一切法则,就是解脱也是有因果的。大修行人了生脱死,就有了生脱死的因和了生脱死的果。生死有生死的因果,出生死有出生死的因果。怎么能说不落呢?
Are great practitioners subjected to the consequences of cause and effect? The term "cause and effect (karma)" encompasses all laws of both the worldly and transcendental realms. Even liberation has its own cause and effect. When a great practitioner attains liberation from birth and death, there are specific causes and effects associated with that liberation. Birth and death have their own karmic causes and effects, and so does the transcendence of birth and death. How can we say they are free from cause and effect?
大修行人本身就是因果,哪怕了生脱死也是属于因果。不能简单地理解生死轮回才叫因果,了生脱死了就没有因果了。了生脱死有了生脱死的因果。小乘有小乘的因果,大乘有大乘的因果,藏、通、别、圆都有它的因、它的果。因果是普遍的。
A great practitioner is cause and effect itself. Even attaining liberation from birth and death still falls within the law of cause and effect. One cannot simply believe that cause and effect only applies to samsara and that it ceases after liberation. Liberation from birth and death also has its own cause and effect. There is cause and effect in the Hinayana, cause and effect in the Mahayana, and cause and effect within the various Buddhist schools, such as the Tathagatagarbha, the Sutras, the Vinaya, and the Tantric teachings. Cause and effect is universal.
"No obscuration"
这些道理不是很深的,虽然是老和尚,但他没有亲近过善知识,没有深刻思考过,有时候还是要回答错的。就这么一个缘故,做了五百世的狐狸。
These principles are not deeply profound, yet even an elder monk might occasionally fail to answer correctly if he has not had the guidance of a wise teacher or ruminated on the matter. Because of this, he became a fox for five hundred lifetimes.
到这一世遇到百丈禅师在百丈山开堂讲法,这狐狸就求百丈禅师为它转语。
In this life, when he encountered Zen Master Baizhang preaching the Dharma at Baizhang Mountain, he sought to have the Zen master pass on the message.
转语,就是转这一句错误的话的因果。于是百丈禅师就说:“那你把那个问题再提出来问我吧。”他就把原话再搬出来:“大修行人还落因果否?”这时百丈禅师就回答了两个字:不昧。“不昧”和“不落”,差一个字,实际上就不一样了。
佛法上的一字之差,有什么区别,会落什么因果,不听经闻法就不会知道。所以每天都要珍惜,用惭愧心听。
To pass the message on the cause and effect of a single wrong word. So, Zen Master Baizhang said to him, “Please repeat your question.” The monk then asked the same question: “Do great practitioners fall into the consequences of cause and effect?” At this point, Zen Master Baizhang responded with two words: "No obscuration" (bù mèi).
The difference between "no obscuration" and "not falling" is just one character in Chinese, but in reality, the meanings are quite different. In the Dharma, even a single word's difference can significantly affect the karmic consequences. Without listening to the teachings, one cannot understand such subtleties. This is why we must cherish every opportunity to listen to the Dharma, with humility and reverence.
有这样的心态,我们就不会轻慢法、轻慢说法场合、轻慢说法者,就不会犯错。然后一句一句法语,就既能消除业障,又能让我们提前成佛。
With this attitude, we will not disregard the Dharma, nor disrespect the place of teaching or the person preaching the Dharma. In doing so, we will avoid making mistakes. Every phrase of the Dharma helps eliminate karmic obstacles and allow us to attain Buddhahood ahead of time.
