般若的法主是文殊菩萨,但是很神奇,我们背的《心经》是由观世音菩萨来宣说的。在佛教里,般若智慧的人格化叫“般若佛母”。《心经》就是般若佛母,是我们的智慧妈妈。每个孩子在妈妈肚子里待二百六十天左右,《心经》也恰好是二百六十个字。我们受这二百六十个字孕育,去思考,去解悟,乃至长养智慧。


In Buddhism, the personification of prajna wisdom is called "Prajnaparamita Mother." The Heart Sutra is the Prajnaparamita Mother—our wisdom mother. Just as a child stays in its mother's womb for about 260 days, the Heart Sutra happens to have precisely 260 characters. We are nurtured by these 260 characters, contemplating them, comprehending them, and ultimately developing wisdom through them.


如果带着科学的观念来学《心经》,能很快入进去。从波粒二象性原理入手,特别容易理解“色不异空,空不异色”。依此起信,再在信的基础上去解,就会产生一种受用,我们的法身慧命就开始在智慧妈妈的肚子里孕育了。


我们来朝五台山,无论去哪一个道场,一个总目的就是求智慧。

“照”的力量>>


那我们求的智慧应当是哪一个?是讲眼耳鼻舌身,还是讲第六、第七意识,还是讲第八意识呢?

       The Heart Sutra is the Prajnaparamita 

       Mother—our wisdom mother.

受持小乘戒时,我们管理眼耳鼻舌身,然后于意地择法。这个戒体是来自于佛的。众生能受佛的戒,佛的戒体要入众生心,就靠佛的转识成智,转第八识为如来藏的智慧。这个如来藏可以把人、四生六道,乃至山河大地、尘埃数的宇宙,都呈现在祂的光明里。


这个光明体性就形成我们佛弟子的三皈体和戒体。当我们根器小、福德资粮少时,这个戒体就展现出自受用,平时可以让我们生命增上,最终可以让我们出三界,足以自度。如果我们过去善根深厚,或者此生有足够的福德因缘,那我们在智上也能够有所启迪,能有力量发起大乘心,佛陀的功德就会在我们身上展现出来。


《心经》能帮助我们既照见五蕴皆空,又照见“色不异空,空不异色”,“受想行识,亦复如是”,乃至驾驭眼耳鼻舌身意。观音菩萨的“照”的力量可以说是完全代表佛陀的,能够把声闻、缘觉的果位,乃至一切菩萨的智慧和行处,都包括在佛光的“照耀”中,甚至依着这个智光,就可以得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,得佛果。


The power of Avalokiteshvara's "illumination" completely represents the Buddha's power. It encompasses the attainments of shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, as well as the wisdom and practices of all bodhisattvas, within the "radiance" of the Buddha's light. By relying on this light of wisdom, one can even attain anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment), and achieve Buddhahood.

观音菩萨为什么有资格来讲《心经》?祂的“照”为什么这么伟大?
 Why is Avalokiteshvara qualified to expound the Heart Sutra? 
 Why is his "illumination" so magnificent?

    


佛陀在灵鹫山入如来藏光明定时,声闻乘的舍利弗尊者无法找到这个定的入处。因为佛陀的光明是不二的、一元的,以声闻的智慧无法进入,所以他祈求观世音菩萨慈悲开示,开方便门,以了解佛陀的光明。






When the Buddha entered the Tathagata-garbha luminous samadhi on Vulture Peak, the Shravaka Venerable Shariputra could not find the entry point to this samadhi. Because the Buddha's light is non-dual and unitary, it cannot be entered through shravaka wisdom. Therefore, he beseeched Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva to compassionately provide guidance and open a skillful means to understand the Buddha's luminosity.

于是观世音菩萨因大悲故,为以舍利弗尊者为代表的娑婆世界一切众生,宣讲佛陀的光明。这个光明可以照见五蕴皆空,人所摄之法皆空。万法的空的本性,都可以在这光明中显现出来。


Thus, out of great compassion, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, for the sake of all sentient beings in the Saha world represented by the Venerable Shariputra, expounded the Buddha’s luminosity. This luminosity can reveal the emptiness of the five aggregates and the emptiness of all phenomena to which sentient beings cling. The empty nature of all dharmas can be manifested within this luminosity.


这个“空”就是解脱。照见人空的时候,从护法的角度来说,能够破魔;从小乘的角度来说,能够怖魔。五蕴是魔,我们在这个魔的状态里生出的烦恼也是魔,因不知真相而产生的生死轮回也是魔,所以作为小乘受用时,照见人空能有怖魔的功德力,可以消除魔力,使我们每个个体生命得到受用,得小乘的解脱。大乘的四摄六度、无量的大悲方便,乃至无上佛果,也都是依着佛陀的光明、般若的智慧。


The concept of "emptiness" is intrinsically linked to liberation. When perceiving the emptiness of the self, from the perspective of Dharma protectors, it has the power to vanquish the malevolent forces; from the perspective of the Hinayana, it can terrify these malevolent forces. The five aggregates themselves can be seen as manifestations of demons and the afflictions that arise within this demonic state are also forms of malevolent influence. The cycle of birth and death, perpetuated by ignorance of the true nature of reality, is likewise a form of malevolent influence. Therefore, as a Hinayana benefit, perceiving the emptiness of the self has the meritorious power to terrify demons, eliminate demonic forces, and allow each individual life to benefit and attain Hinayana liberation. The Four All-Embracing Virtues and Six Perfections of the Mahayana, the boundless skillful means of great compassion, and even the unsurpassed fruit of Buddhahood all depend on the Buddha's luminosity and the wisdom of Prajnaparamita.



所以玄奘大师才持着这个《心经》,得无量受用。恐惧的时候、迷茫的时候、面对沙漠断水的时候、遇到土匪外道的时候……这个《心经》对于他来说就如“如意宝”一般。


般若的智慧能生万法,这智慧里就有法身佛。佛陀在灵鹫山入的是法身佛的定,观音菩萨代表报身佛,所以才能开示般若。佛陀的光明中蕴藏着佛果,所以这部《心经》里,三身佛都在其中。它包含了佛的三身、四智。


Prajna wisdom can give birth to all dharmas, and within this wisdom resides the Dharmakaya Buddha. When the Buddha entered samadhi on Vulture Peak, it was the samadhi of Dharmakaya Buddha. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva embodies the Sambhogakaya Buddha, and thus is able to expound Prajna. Within the Buddha's radiance lies the fruit of Buddhahood. Hence, this Heart Sutra contains Three Bodies of the Buddha along with the Four Wisdoms.



从修行上来说,它也可以是护法,可以回遮一切不吉祥。


中国人管大年三十叫“除夕”,“除夕”就是除去那些不好的东西,靠什么除?佛教里是靠念《般若心经》来除的,让物理、心灵空间都得以净化。不仅如此,《心经》还可以产生声闻四果、缘觉的果位、菩萨的果位、诸佛的果位。


《心经》最后的“般若波罗蜜多咒”,“揭谛揭谛,波罗揭谛,波罗僧揭谛,菩提萨婆诃”,就可以让所有轮回众生解脱,让声闻、缘觉、菩萨增上,诸佛还过来以般若智光广度众生。


我们能来五台山朝圣地、求智慧,这是观世音菩萨慈悲,用我们能够受用的方式,把佛的威德和智慧开显给我们。这样的大悲产生的方便,解脱就变成我们每个凡人都能爬的楼梯,以此去触碰佛陀的智慧光芒。
