观音菩萨总是手持一枝杨柳,这里面是有寓意的。杨柳在春天发芽,代表菩萨的心像春天一样长养万物;一阵微风吹来,柳条随风摇曳,又代表菩萨的心柔软悦意。


Guanyin Bodhisattva is often holding a willow branch, which carries profound symbolic meaning. The willow tree sprouts in spring, representing the Bodhisattva’s heart, which nurtures all beings like spring brings renewal to all things. When a gentle breeze blows, the willow branches sway gracefully, symbolizing the Bodhisattva's heart—soft, flexible, and filled with joy.

长养万物又柔软慈悲,观音菩萨总是带给人如沐春风的感觉。而杨柳栽在河边,这也是菩萨的愿望:柳枝只要垂到河面,一碰到河水,这里的水饿鬼就可以喝到。本来在饿鬼眼里是大漠黄沙,杨柳枝一点,顿变绿洲,所以,“杨枝净水,遍洒三千,性空八德利人天,……火焰化红莲”。


Nurturing all beings with kindness and compassion, Guanyin Bodhisattva always brings the feeling of being bathed in the warmth of spring. The willow is often planted by riversides, reflecting the Bodhisattva’s deep wish: as the willow branch touches the surface of the water, it transforms the water into something drinkable for the hungry ghosts. What once appeared as a barren desert to the hungry ghosts becomes a lush oasis with just a touch of the willow branch. As the verse says: "With willow twigs, may purifying water be sprinkled all over the three-fold thousands of worlds, may its emptiness and eight virtuous qualities benefit humans and heavenly beings,…… turning flames into blooming lotuses."

佛菩萨的悲愿是众生解脱的途径。像阿弥陀佛,当胸一朵金莲,我们没有,但我们只要心中有佛,佛手里有就等于我们有!好比是妈妈领了工资,女儿只要嘴甜撒娇,妈妈就会心甘情愿拨给你零花钱。


The compassionate vows of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas pave the way for the liberation of sentient beings. Taking Amitābha Buddha as an example, he bears a golden lotus on the chest. While we may not possess such a lotus ourselves, whatever the Buddha holds or bestows becomes ours as well, so long as we hold the Buddha in our hearts. It is like a mother receiving her paycheck: if her daughter flatters her with sweet words, the mother will willingly share her earnings as pocket money.

像毛驴拉磨一般,我们在六道里轮回了一圈又一圈。靠什么出轮回?仅靠这具肉身吗?肉身会老,会死,会消亡;只有皈依不生不灭的佛性,善自护念,净念相继,“南无阿弥陀佛、南无阿弥陀佛……”极乐世界才在当下跟我们建立了关系。


We are like donkeys tied to a mill, endlessly circling through the six destinies. How can we escape this cyclic existence? Can we rely solely on this physical body? This body will age, decay, and perish. Only by taking refuge in the neither arising nor ceasing Buddha-nature, by taking care of yourself, and by maintaining pure mindfulness in continuous succession —chanting “Namo Amitābha Buddha, Namo Amitābha Buddha…”—can we establish a connection with the realm of ultimate bliss here and now.

我们皈依佛性,身虽在娑婆,心却与十方佛国连成一体,想想这真是很幸福也很奇妙的。我们现在竟然脚踏两只船,一只在娑婆世界,一只在极乐世界。


When we take refuge in Buddha-nature, though our physical body remains in this sahā world, our heart becomes united with the Buddha-lands of the ten directions. Just think about it—how wondrous and joyful this is! We are, in a sense, standing on two boats simultaneously—one in the sahā world and the other in the realm of ultimate bliss.

佛性在圣不增,在凡不减,能明白这个道理,就是一种觉悟。成佛就是靠这个理论,修行就是靠这个知见。没有这个知见是盲修瞎炼,有了这个知见,才能站定脚跟,才是真正的佛弟子。


Buddha-nature is neither increased in the enlightened nor diminished in the unenlightened. Understanding this principle is a form of awakening. Attaining Buddhahood depends on this truth, and practice relies on this insight. Without this understanding, our practice is blind and misguided. With this understanding, we can firmly establish our spiritual foundation and truly qualify as disciples of the Buddha.


目标定在了极乐世界,娑婆世界的一切就不要跟人争抢了。心心念念都落在净土,“我的莲花长了没有?长了多少?”要着眼在莲花的“青色青光,黄色黄光,赤色赤光,白色白光”里,对于娑婆世界,吃光用光刚刚好。不要贪求,不要再吃着碗里的看着锅里的。


Once our goal is set on the realm of ultimate bliss, there is no need to compete for the temporary gains in this sahā world. Let every thought rest on the pure land: “Has my lotus grown? How much has it grown?” Focus your attention on your lotus: blue colored [of] blue light, yellow colored [of] yellow light, red colored [of] red light, white colored [of] white light. In the sahā world, consume just enough to sustain yourself—there is no need for greed or endless desire. Do not eat from your bowl while eyeing the food in the pot.

对娑婆世界要看轻一些看淡一些,对众生则要情义浓一些,慈悲重一些,这才像是要去极乐世界享福的人。我们的心要像菩萨一样柔软,在微风里轻轻摇曳,带给众生春天的希望与喜悦。


We should regard the sahā world with less attachment and take it more lightly, but towards sentient beings, we should cultivate deeper affection and greater compassion. This is the demeanor of someone preparing to enjoy the realm of ultimate bliss. Our hearts must be as soft and gentle as the Bodhisattva's, swaying lightly in the breeze, bringing hope and joy to all beings, like the arrival of spring.
